Devy Watch: Quinn Ewers, Tetairoa McMillan, Anthony Belton (Fantasy Football)

We are so back. Football is happening and now it actually matters. With that, comes the next group of players looking to accomplish their dreams by making it to the NFL. With Week 0 and Week 1 in the books, we now focus on Week 2 of college football. I’ve got three prospects for you to watch for this weekend as you start to prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Devy Watch

Quinn Ewers (QB – Texas)

There’s a big game taking place at the Big House this week with Michigan and Texas colliding. Leading the charge for the Longhorns is quarterback Quinn Ewers. In Week 1 against Colorado State, he played well with 260 yards passing and three touchdowns. Going 20-of-27 was a strong sign Ewers has a good grasp of this offense. He did throw an interception, so it’ll be interesting to see how he handles cornerback Will Johnson in the Michigan secondary.

That said, Ewers could be a borderline first-round talent for certain teams and this is a big game to help him solidify himself on draft boards for the 2025 NFL Draft. On tape, he shows a quick release and has plenty of arm strength. However, he seemed too reliant on that arm strength and his lower body mechanics would get out of line. Whether it be his weight transfer or base, he needed to clean that up going into this season.

After one game, he looks to have cleaned that up. He had a much cleaner base and his weight transfer allowed him to throw with more torque. Those missed throws from last season should lead to more completions for him this season. Throughout his career, Ewers has played in big games against Oklahoma, Alabama and Washington, but now he’s got a chance to hand Michigan their first loss since December 31, 2022, against TCU.

Tetairoa McMillan (WR – Arizona)

It’s not every week you see a player go off for 10 receptions, 304 yards and four touchdowns. However, Tetairoa McMillan did just that for the Arizona Wildcats last week vs. New Mexico. As the Wildcats prepare to play Northern Arizona in Week 2, we may not see a full game played by McMillan.

That said, I’d expect him to play and still have an impact early and, potentially, often, in this game. Nicknamed T-Mac, he’s electric for a player of his size. He’s listed at 6-foot-5. and while it’s evident he’s got a big catch radius due to his wingspan, it’s what he does after the catch that is most impressive.

Watching him last week against New Mexico, McMillan was able to generate plenty of yards after the catch due to his ability to juke defenders or shrug them off with ease. Most players his size don’t move so fluidly but he just plays the game at a different level. Rumored as a potential first-round receiver for the 2025 NFL Draft, he’s off to a hot start and could very well solidify that first-round status over the next several weeks. I’d expect another strong showing for him this week.

Anthony Belton (OT – NC State)

It’s no secret I love to watch the tape from the trenches, so I’m probably biased for the Anthony Belton vs. James Pearce Jr. battle that’s going to occur on Saturday. The talented NC State offensive tackle will have his hands full with the potential first-overall pick from Tennessee.

Last season, Pearce Jr. earned a 91.9 pass-rush grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF). Fortunately for the Wolfpack, they’ve had one of the most consistent offensive tackles in pass protection with Anthony Belton. Since 2022, Belton has earned a 78.0 PFF pass blocking grade. I’m hopeful he can hold his own at left tackle this week.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 324 pounds, Belton can hold his own against most pass-rushers. Much of this is due to his length, power and aggressiveness. Fortunately, this heavyweight fight will be live on Saturday night in prime time. Get ready for a battle where both players can solidify themselves for high remarks from NFL scouts.
