2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge (OG – Georgia)
6-foot-6 | 320 Pounds
Background
Tate Ratledge committed to Georgia as a five-star offensive tackle recruit. After a 2020 campaign as a reserve, he was set to start at right guard going into 2021, but sustained a Lisfranc injury four snaps into the season opener and missed the rest of the year.
Started 14 games at right guard in 2022 (one sack allowed), 13 in 2023 (no sacks allowed) and nine this year (one sack allowed.)
Positives
Stepped right into a starting role in 2022 and has looked very comfortable against SEC competition. Very well-built guard who carries his weight well, with an athletic physique and long limbs. A graceful, easy mover who can get to the second level and line up opponents.
In a phone booth, Ratledge fires out low and competes in the leverage battle despite his height. Nice hand placement inside, including on the reset. Not the most dominant in-line blocker, but has above-average functional strength and consistently drives his legs after contact and through the whistle. Shows good knee bend and lower-body flexibility in his pass sets.
Ratledge has the awareness/alertness and lateral quickness to slide and pick up delayed rushers. Gets good extensions to keep defenders out of his pads. Can be a real weapon in the screen game because of his speed and fluidity. Seeks out opportunities to help and can blow up opponents when he’s left unopposed at the beginning of the play.
Negatives
A little bit susceptible to gap-shooting types out of his stance; can fire out with his head down and a slightly narrower base than you’d like. Falls off of some blocks to the sides by not keeping his head up. Ratledge has the occasional tendency to lunge at opponents when working in space, rather than waiting until he can engage from within his frame.
Could play with a straighter back in his pass sets. Locks out opponents, but doesn’t always fire a violent punch and can look content to absorb power. Has missed significant time in two of the past four seasons, so medicals will be important.
Summary
A player whose high-school background at tackle is evident; built more like an edge protector and has the athleticism of one as well. As a guard, balance issues crop up as he tries to compete in the leverage battle, but those may not be as evident with a move outside.
The Bulldogs ran a more balanced attack in 2022 but have gravitated toward zone concepts since then, and that’s probably a scheme more suited to Ratledge’s ability to get out in space and line up opponents. Has starting-caliber talent and could be a plus starter if he stays healthy and continues to develop his technique.
Projection: Round 3
