A full field of golfers is set to attend the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California this week. While the traditional 36-hole cut line returns, compared to last week’s 54-hole cut at the American Express, there are still multiple courses to play, while Round 1 tees off a day earlier than other events, starting on Wednesday morning.
The betting favorites include Ludvig Aberg, Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Keegan Bradley, Tony Finau, and Will Zalatoris, ranging from +900 to +2200 odds. Last year’s winner, Matthieu Pavon, is +12000, indicating oddsmakers are bearish on a repeat performance from the French golfer.
Last week’s American Express DFS Primer had some decent production but none of my four golfers managed a T20 finish. Harry Hall played the best with a T21 finish (-15), while Tom Hoge (T29) and Lee Hodges (T34) also turned in some decent outings. Christian Bezuidenhout missed the cut after recording a runner-up finish in 2024, which tanked every lineup that added the South African golfer.

Course Overview
Torrey Pines South is the tougher track, stretching over 7,700 yards as a par 72, while the Torrey Pines North course is another par 72 just over 7,200 yards in length. Surfaces are comprised of overseeded ryegrass and Kikuyugrass on the fairways and four-inch rough, while the greens are a mixture of Bentgrass and Poa annua.
The North course has 6,000 square foot greens that offer a bigger approach target, however, golfers will only play Torrey Pines North once. Putting velocity measures up to 13 feet via Stimpmeter, which is on the higher-end of pace for PGA Tour greens. Finding fairways and getting enough distance off-the-tee are imperative at Torrey Pines, while scrambling will undoubtedly be needed on certain holes on Torrey Pines South.
Recommended Plays: DraftKings
DraftKings maximum salary is set at $50,000
Will Zalatoris: $9,500
My favorite chalk play is Will Zalatoris at $9,500. Zalatoris has three top-15 finishes, including a playoff loss, a T7, and a T13 in his past three appearances at Torrey Pines. The Californian is ranked 34th SG: around-the-green, 14th in driving accuracy, and eighth for greens in regulation rate. He’s built for this course, so let’s insert Zalatoris as the most expensive player in DraftKings lineups.
Mark Hubbard: $7,800
Mark Hubbard has had a quality start to 2025. He logged a T21 at the Sony Open and followed it up with a T12 at The American Express this past weekend. The 35-year-old American is ninth in SG: Approach, 41st in total driving, and sixth in hole proximity. Putting isn’t his strength but Torrey Pines is more predicated on off-the-tee and approach skill. At under $8,000, Hubbard is a quality add, following his T20 finish at the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open.

Alex Smalley: $8,900
Alex Smalley is playing great golf right now, recording a T16 at the Sony Open and following it up with a solo 11th-place finish at The American Express a couple of days ago. Smalley missed the cut at Torrey Pines in 2024, a T37 finish in 2023, and a T56 finish in 2022.
He’s trending toward his best finish at The Farmers Insurance Open ahead of Round 1 and I don’t mind FanDuel’s pricing at $8,900. Smalley ranks fifth in total strokes gained, including 29th off-the-tee, 31st on approach, and 19th total driving. Entering 10th in scoring average and 38th in par 4 scoring, let’s insert Smalley at under $9,000 on FanDuel.
Adam Schenk: $8,100
The final prospect to target at a decent price is Adam Schenk at $8,100. Schenk logged a T25 finish at Torrey Pines in 2024 and a T20 finish in 2023, improving from a missed cut in 2021 and a T56 finish in 2022.
Schenk withdrew from The American Express due to back spasms but is apparently recovered and ready to roll ahead of Round 1. Schenk recorded a T6 finish at Waialae a couple of weeks ago and ranks 14th in driving distance, 37th SG: Putting, and 16th in scrambling, including first in scrambling from the rough.
Based on his ability to save strokes around the green, combined with power off-the-tee and an improved putting form, Schenk is a quality addition to DFS lineups at an $8,100 salary.
