2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Cobee Bryant

Cobee Bryant (CB – Kansas)

6-foot-1 | 175 Pounds

Background

Cobee Bryant’s given name is Jacobee. He was a three-star recruit who started seven out of 11 games played as a freshman, posting 21 tackles, two interceptions (one touchdown),and one breakup. Bryant became a full-time starter the following year, ending up with 38 tackles, three interceptions (one touchdown) and nine breakups.

In 2023, Bryant made 32 tackles, intercepted four passes, broke up five passes and returned a fumble for a touchdown. Recorded 37 tackles, another four interceptions and seven breakups this past season.

Positives

Four-year starter with impressive production, especially over the past three seasons. Tall, lanky boundary cornerback with impressive flexibility. Played a lot of off-coverage in school, primarily zone but with a bit of man from shuffle technique mixed in. Has quick feet and covers a lot of ground, which allows him to get good depth to keep things in front of him. Was asked to do a little bit of backpedaling. Does a nice job of getting low.The

A conservative approach to the position allows Bryant to minimize big plays. For a taller cornerback, looks pretty smooth flipping his hips. Has solid speed to carry opponents down the sidelines. Uses his length effectively to jam at the line or pin toward the sidelines. Can be very disruptive when he’s allowed to get physical with receivers, using his length and hands to stay connected throughout the route in man coverage.

On-ball production has been impressive. Has the size and length to impact throws, even when he’s not able to get his hands on a pass. Sniffs out screens developing quickly. Shows good willingness to come up and tackle; looks fast planting and driving on a spot. Has been a reasonably reliable tackler overall. Offers a wide radius.

Negatives

Bryant has a thin frame and will likely be asked to add another 10-15 pounds of bulk at the next level. Didn’t get much of a chance to see his footwork from the left side of the defense. Despite his four years of starting experience, Bryant doesn’t always look like he fully trusts his instincts at times in zone coverage, with some hesitation/false steps.

Occasionally gets caught flat-footed when trying to sit on expected shorter routes. Penalties have been an issue recently, with 12 over the past two seasons. Can struggle to work his way through blocks, owing to a lack of ideal functional strength. Had some issues with missed tackles in both 2021 and 2023. Can be a bit of an ankle-grabber at times.

Summary

A tall, lanky cornerback with impressive flexibility, quick feet, some physical play in man coverage and solid ball skills, Bryant’s experience shows up on tape in his anticipation and technique. At this point, he needs to continue developing his body and growing into his frame, as he looks thin and lacks ideal functional strength.

That said, Bryant has potential starting-caliber tools, with some schematic versatility, so he’ll get some Day 2 looks. Could play in either a zone (ideally Cover 3) or a press-man scheme. Might be a bit better at the latter with time.

Projection: Round 3/Round 4
