PGA DraftKings and FanDuel DFS Primer: WM Phoenix Open (2025)

The PGA Tour departs from California and heads to TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course in Scottsdale, Arizona ahead of Thursday’s opening round at the 2025 WM Phoenix Open. This event has been dominated by Scottie Scheffler and Nick Taylor since 2022, with Taylor returning as the defending champion.

Golfers will compete on only one course for the first time in several events, with a standard 36-hole cut line enforced. Last week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am DFS Primer had a couple of solid hits, with Shane Lowry recording a solo runner-up finish at 19-under-par, followed by Taylor Pendrith with a T9 finish. My other two recommended golfers, Keegan Bradley and Aaron Rai, each fell to T40 or lower in a cut-free event, so hopefully, you built your lineups primarily around Lowry and Pendrith.

Here’s my latest WM Phoenix Open DFS Primer, including previous winners, relevant betting stats, and a course overview recap of the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more DFS PGA and weekly golf analysis.

            Course Overview

TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course is a par 71 that runs just over 7,250 yards. There are three par 5s and four par 3s, with the rough grown an inch higher compared to previous editions.

Most of the fairways are wide and the 7,000 square foot greens are much bigger than what golfers faced at Pebble Beach. A strong off-the-tee and approach game remain vital, while the Stimpmeter measures up to 12 feet on the Bermudagrass/Ryegrass surface. Established in 1988 and designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, TPC Scottsdale also has several water hazards on the back-nine.

Par 4 holes tend to fluctuate between 430 and 470 yards, although there are a handful that run less than 430 yards. Three of the four par 3s are under 200 yards but golfers won’t get a par 5 opportunity after the third hole until the 13th and 15th.

            Recommended Plays: DraftKings

DraftKings maximum salary is set at $50,000

            Nick Taylor: $8,400

Nick Taylor needs to be prioritized at $8,400 in DraftKings lineups. He recorded a runner-up finish in 2023 and won outright in a playoff in 2024. The Canadian has a well-rounded game that includes strong iron and putting skills, which is why he’s performed so well at TPC Scottsdale in his past two appearances.

            Billy Horschel: $7,600

Billy Horschel has consistently turned in good performances at TPC Scottsdale, including a T6 back in 2022. Horschel has flown under the radar to start 2025 but he’s gone T21 and T9 at the American Express and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in the past two outings. Horschel has 19 birdies in both of those events and finished with at least 94 fantasy points, making him a value at a $7.6K salary.

            Recommended Plays: FanDuel

FanDuel maximum salary is set at $60,000

            Lucas Glover: $8,900

I’m a big believer in Lucas Glover to continue playing well off-the-tee and on approach at TPC Scottsdale this week. Glover has vastly improved his putting ability in 2025 and is among the best tee-to-green in the field. Coming off of a T3 finish at Pebble Beach, the veteran has 90 or more fantasy points in two of three events played this season, so make sure to insert him into FanDuel lineups at under a $9,000 salary.

            Charley Hoffman: $8,800

Another PGA Tour veteran, Charley Hoffman, is available at $8,800 following a playoff loss to Nick Taylor at the 2024 WM Phoenix Open. Hoffman has a T5 finish at The American Express, which is a similar layout to the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course, as well as a T25 in difficult conditions on a lengthy Torrey Pines track during the Farmers Insurance Open. He’s well rested and has played well at this event in recent years, so make sure to add Hoffman into FanDue lineups at $8,800.
