Justin Fields Signs With Jets: Fantasy Football Impact
2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
The Jets needed a replacement at quarterback after deciding to part ways with their 2024 starter, Aaron Rodgers. Into the void steps Fields, who appeared in 10 games and made six starts for the Steelers last season, completing 106-of-161 passes for 1,106 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. He also had 289 rushing yards and five TD runs.
Fields spent his first three seasons with the Bears, making 38 starts for Chicago. In 2022, Fields was QB5 in fantasy points per game among quarterbacks with 20.5 points. He threw for 2,242 yards and 17 touchdowns in 15 starts that season, and he was wildly productive as a runner, with 1,143 rushing yards and eight TD runs.
The 11th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, Fields turned 26 earlier this month. Sack avoidance will be one of the keys to success for Fields. He was sacked a league-high 55 times in 2022, and he’s been sacked 161 times in 50 career games. Fields fared slightly better in that department last year, taking 16 sacks in his six starts.
Fields has completed 61.1% of his passes in the NFL. He’s averaged a respectable 7.0 yards per attempt over his first four seasons.
It’s the former Ohio State Buckeye’s rushing ability that gives him such intriguing fantasy potential. He’s averaged 50.2 rushing yards per game over his NFL career and has scored 19 rushing touchdowns.
The trade also reunites Fields with WR Garrett Wilson. They spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons together at Ohio State, where Fields threw 67 TD passes in 22 games. However, the Jets don’t have much else at the receiver and tight end positions. Fields’ fantasy outlook for 2025 largely depends on what sort of pass-catchers the Jets can acquire in the coming months.
Now that he has a starting job, Fields should be considered a low-end QB1 in fantasy drafts. There’s likely to be some week-to-week volatility as he settles into a new system, but Fields’ rushing ability gives him appealing upside.
Wilson’s fantasy stock continues to ascend. The departure of Davante Adams leaves Wilson as the Jets’ clear alpha receiver, and he now gets to work with a familiar quarterback.
