2025 NFL Draft: Best Remaining Day 2 Prospects

2025 NFL Draft: Best Remaining Day 2 Prospects

The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft has come and gone with a fair share of surprises, specifically with prospects who didn’t hear their name called on Day 1.

This list is highlighted by quarterback Shedeur Sanders, cornerback Will Johnson and EDGE rusher Mike Green. It will be interesting to see where these players land, as they were initially projected to go much higher in the draft.

On this page, you’ll find my top 10 ranking of the best remaining Day 2 prospects. Each player will have a blurb that describes their skillset along with a projected landing spot.

Best Remaining Day 2 Prospects

1. Shedeur Sanders (QB – Colorado)

We all knew Shedeur Sanders had a chance to fall in the draft, but it’s still a bit surprising to see the New York Giants trade back into the first round only to take Jaxson Dart instead. While Sanders has middling traits, he was originally projected in the top 10 for a reason. There’s some upside here in a quarterback who helped turn Colorado around.

Sanders was able to overcome poor pass protection at Colorado. This is a quarterback who can develop into the next Geno Smith, who has become a competent starter in this league. The most likely landing spot for Sanders is at 33 to the Cleveland Browns, but he can also go to the Las Vegas Raiders (37), New Orleans Saints (40) or Dallas Cowboys (44).

2. Will Johnson (CB – Michigan)

Will Johnson was once viewed as the top cornerback in this draft, but he fell due to medical concerns. There’s also the issue that he’s a better fit in zone-heavy defensive schemes. With that said, this is a player who has played both in the slot and on the perimeter. The former Michigan standout also boasts good size (6-foot-2, 194 pounds). It’s just a matter of which team is willing to take the risk.

When looking at teams at the top of the second round, the best fit looks like the Chicago Bears at 39. This is a team that has two second-round picks in the top 40, so they can afford to take the top player available and secure the value with Johnson. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them grab Johnson and then a running back with their next pick.

3. Mike Green (EDGE – Marshall)

Some view Mike Green as one of the best EDGE rushers in the draft, but he slid out of the first round, likely due to character concerns stemming from allegations of sexual assault. Even with this issue, it’s hard to see Green sliding too far in the second round, considering his talent. This is a well-rounded pass-rusher who can hold his own versus the run.

The Saints make a lot of sense at pick 40 because they addressed the offensive line in the first round. Their other main need is pass rush, so we could see them secure value on Green with their first Day 2 pick. That would give New Orleans a great start as they try to rebuild this roster under a new coaching regime.

4. Donovan Ezeiruaku (EDGE – Boston College)

Donovan Ezeiruaku boasts athleticism and production, including 16.5 sacks in 2024. You’re likely going to see teams love that he was able to produce at a high level in college. Expect him to go early in the second round, especially because there aren’t any character or injury concerns within his profile.

As with Mike Green, the Saints make a lot of sense for Ezeiruaku. We could also see a team like the Raiders make a move here, as they already addressed the offensive line, so going after the defensive line is a nice fit as this team tries to rebuild in the trenches.

5. TreVeyon Henderson (RB – Ohio State)

TreVeyon Henderson is an explosive back who can excel in the passing game, drawing comparisons to Aaron Jones. Teams are going to covet Henderson because he can also thrive in pass protection. This is a running back who could have easily gone in the first round, so there’s a good chance he can be a difference-maker on offense.

After the Bears missed out on Ashton Jeanty on Day 1, I’m expecting them to lock in Henderson, who can be the Jahmyr Gibbs in this Ben Johnson offense. Chicago already added their Sam LaPorta in Colston Loveland. Now it’s time to add a big-play threat in the backfield as well.

6. Nick Emmanwori (DB – South Carolina)

Nick Emmanwori is a safety with terrific traits, including ideal size at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds. This is a player who can thrive in the box and close to the action, providing help in run support while serving diverse roles as a safety, big nickel or linebacker.

The Houston Texans make some sense at pick 34 as they try to continue to stack their defense for DeMeco Ryans. While this isn’t a clear need, it would be an interesting move to enhance one of their strengths by bringing in a playmaker with elite athleticism.

7. Mason Taylor (TE – LSU)

Mason Taylor is an athletic tight end with strong hands and polished route-running. The former LSU standout can be a red-zone threat with his big catch radius. This is a pro-ready prospect who can immediately step in as a team’s starting tight end. There was a chance he could have gone at the end of the first round, so expect him off the board early in Day 2.

My favorite fit for Taylor is the Saints because this was a team that was linked to Tyler Warren earlier in the draft, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them take a tight end with their second-round pick. This would give new head coach Kellen Moore another weapon to work with as they rebuild this offense.

8. Luther Burden III (WR – Missouri)

Luther Burden can become a stud in the slot, drawing comparisons to Stefon Diggs by Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network. This is exactly the type of prospect that makes sense for a team that took a quarterback in the first round, as Burden can act as a safety valve in the slot.

This is why the Titans look like the perfect fit. This team needs another weapon to go along with Calvin Ridley. While they signed Tyler Lockett, he’s well past his prime, so it’s a good idea to bring in an additional wideout to ease the burden off Cam Ward.

9. Trey Amos (CB – Mississippi)

Trey Amos was sometimes mocked in the first round, but he fell to Day 2. With that said, you have to be intrigued by his size at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds. This is a player with strong ball skills and good speed (4.43 40-yard dash) who has a lot of upside moving forward.

The Jets make a lot of sense at pick 42 because new head coach Aaron Glenn will want another talented player to work with as he tries to get this disappointing defense back on track. There’s also a chance Sauce Gardner is eventually moved, especially if the Jets have another bad season, so Amos is a fit here.

10. Carson Schwesinger (LB – UCLA)

Carson Schwesinger can be a strong contributor in coverage and run defense. There’s good size here at 6-foot-2, 242 pounds, which should make him intriguing to teams picking at the top or middle of the second round. Schwesinger had some steam to go in the first round, but ultimately that wasn’t the case.

This is another player who can be taken by the Jets. I’m anticipating New York to prioritize its defense after taking an offensive lineman on Day 1. Schwesinger could be a plug-and-play starter for a team that needs help at linebacker.
