Oakmont Country Club hosts the 125th U.S. Open this week. Nestled just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this par 70 is one of the most difficult courses in the PGA Tour rotation. Many golfers in this field have stated that even par on Sunday would be a good enough score to contend for the outright win.
Last week’s PGA DFS Primer – RBC Canadian Open wasn’t the best or worst outcome we’ve had on the PGA Tour in 2025. Alex Smalley returned the most value with a T13 finish at a cheap $7.6K salary on DraftKings, while Keith Mitchell’s T27 finish ($9.1K) was decent. Matti Schmid missed the cut, which tanked lineups at $9.2K on FanDuel. Nate Lashley’s cheap $7.6K salary yielded a meager T47 finish, which didn’t move the needle enough to contend for prizes in DFS contests.
Let’s bounce back during the third major of the 2025 PGA Tour season and cash some DFS lineups at Oakmont this week. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more PGA DFS recommendations, including analysis and free picks.

Course Overview
Oakmont Country Club is a par 70 playing 7,372 yards in length. Trees and water hazards are hardly present, however, five-inch rough awaits errant tee shots and approach shots. Fairways are considerably narrow, while there are over 160 sand bunkers in play, including the iconic “Church Pews” on the front-nine.
Greens are poa annua with huge undulations. This means approach shots and shots from around the green could wind up in a much different location than intended due to running over 14 feet via Stimpmeter. Greens measure 8,500 square feet on average, which is even bigger than the last time Oakmont hosted the 2016 U.S. Open.
Bogey avoidance and tee-to-green accuracy are paramount to success at Oakmont. Putting presents its own challenges but getting onto the green in regulation is the best way to mitigate squares on the scorecard this week.
Recommended Plays: DraftKings
DraftKings maximum salary is set at $50,000
Shane Lowry: $7,800
Shane Lowry is a golfer I’m targeting in a variety of betting markets, which also extends to DFS lineups. DraftKings has the Irishman priced at $7.8K salary, which feels too low considering how he’s playing right now.
Lowry ranks fifth total strokes gained, including second SG: Approach, 28th driving accuracy and 36th at finding greens in regulation. He’s also 24th scrambling, 50th on approach shots from 200+ yards and leads the PGA Tour in hole proximity.
Lowry should thrive in these difficult conditions based on his tee-to-green accuracy and touch around the greens. Also logged a T2 finish here during the 2016 U.S. Open.
Sepp Straka: $7,700
It’s been a career year for Sepp Straka in 2025, so I’m going to happily insert him into DraftKings lineups at a $7.7K salary. The Austrian has logged two of his four outright wins this season, totaling five top 10 finishes through 16 events played.
Missed the cut at both previous majors, which is likely why we’re getting Straka at such a nice discount. However, he won the Truist Championship during a Signature Event, beating Shane Lowry with a better putter down the stretch. Then, after the missed cut at Quail Hollow Club, Straka carded a T3 finish at the Memorial Tournament.
Ranks highly in a lot of metrics, like second total strokes gained, fourth SG: Tee-to-Green, 11th driving accuracy, fifth proximity, 17th SG: Putting and first at finding greens in regulation at 71.4 percent.
We won’t get this price on Straka outside of majors, so let’s bite on this value.

FanDuel maximum salary is set at $60,000
Jordan Spieth: $10,500
Jordan Spieth is a streaky golfer that has seemingly turned a corner with his game. The 13-time PGA Tour winner, including a 2015 U.S. Open title at Chambers Bay, just recorded a T7 finish at the Memorial Tournament. Muirfield Village is a difficult course with a lot of tall rough, so it’s a decent comparison to Oakmont.
Spieth’s metrics aren’t eye-popping but he does sit 19th total strokes gained, which includes 23rd SG: Tee-to-Green and 30th SG: Around the Green. Sneakily 23rd putting average and 28th on par 4s.
He’s exceeded 70 fantasy points in six of his previous 10 events played. Let’s pay up to acquire Spieth in FanDuel DFS lineups, where he could put his elite short game on full display.
Keegan Bradley: $9,300
There’s no way I’m building PGA DFS lineups without Keegan Bradley in them at Oakmont this week. Bradley’s game is seemingly built for courses like Oakmont, which prioritize accuracy over power.
Bradley has back-to-back top 10 finishes at the PGA Championship and Memorial Tournament. He’s logged at least 75 fantasy points in four consecutive events.
Ranks 17th on par 4s, 26th putting average, 22nd proximity, 19th total driving and 14th SG: Approach. Scrambling and putting remain weaknesses but Bradleys’ ability to avoid bad lies will lead to at least a fifth straight T30 finish, with the ability to climb into the top 10 by Sunday.
