Game of The Week
(odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
#15 Michigan @ #18 Oklahoma (-5.5) | Total 45.5 | Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC
Last week, we saw the debut of freshman phenom Bryce Underwood. While it was against a lower level of competition in New Mexico, we saw plenty of what he has to offer and why he was the top-ranked quarterback in his recruiting class. He did break the freshman passing yards record for the school with 251 yards in his debut. On the other side, we have Washington State transfer John Mateer for Oklahoma, coming off a record-breaking debut, producing over 400 yards and four touchdowns against Illinois State. Mateer has launched himself into the conversation for the Heisman Trophy and to be a potential top pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft.
This game is projected as a lower-scoring affair with a total of 45.5. Both teams scored over 30 points last week against inferior opponents, but their offenses also showed they can make explosive plays. Michigan, per usual, showed they can establish the run game with Justice Haynes running for 159 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Marlin Klein emerged as the top target in the passing game. Oklahoma’s offense was humming with Mateer in control, but reports are that they will be shaking up the offensive line this week and potentially starting multiple freshmen. The edge in the trenches on both sides of the ball goes to Michigan, and I believe that will be the deciding factor in this one.
My Picks:
Devy Spotlight
Jonah Coleman (RB – Washington) | 2026
Jonah Coleman is coming off a massive Week 1, gaining 199 yards on 25 touches and finding the end zone twice on the ground. This week, he has another opportunity to post eye-popping numbers against FCS opponent UC Davis. Coleman has proven he is a capable three-down back with power, agility and explosiveness. He will see a monster role each week and can be one of the biggest risers in this running back class.
Heisman Trophy Race
The top five Heisman Trophy favorites after Week 1:
- Garrett Nussmeier (QB – LSU) | +800
- Carson Beck (QB – Miami) | +950
- LaNorris Sellers (QB – South Carolina) | +1000
- Cade Klubnik (QB – Clemson) | +1400
- Gunner Stockton (QB – Georgia) | +1400
A big shake-up after Week 1 as favorite Arch Manning drops out of the top five, and Garrett Nussmeier has taken over as the favorite after a huge road win at Clemson. Transfer Carson Beck jumps into the second spot after leading Miami to a home win against Notre Dame in primetime. One name I am keeping an eye on that could make a jump is Utah quarterback Devon Dampier. He accounted for almost 300 yards and three scores in a blowout victory over UCLA in his debut for the Utes.
