Fantasy Football Outlook: Will Brock Bowers Play Week 5?

Brock Bowers ‘planning on playing,’ says Pete Carroll
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, who is dealing with a knee injury, is “planning on playing,” says head coach Pete Carroll, who said he was rested in order to play. Bowers said he was unable to talk about the specifics of his injury, though he admitted he was not moving “to the best of [his] abilities right now.”

Fantasy Impact

The Raiders play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5 and have two more games before their bye week. Bowers has not been playing at the same level as he showed last season, and his injury could easily be to blame. At some point, the Raiders may need to play it easy with Bowers, but if not, the bye week could be the best time for him to get back into shape. He is still the half-PPR TE11 with 8.5 points per game.

Brock Bowers (knee) is questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Impact

Bowers did not take part in practice on Thursday or Friday and is officially considered questionable to play heading into the weekend. The team seems to believe that he’s trending towards playing, however, which is a good sign for his availability. Assuming he’s active, fantasy managers shouldn’t hesitate to start him in this matchup, especially if Michael Mayer (concussion) is ruled out prior to game time.

What the Experts Are Saying

Bowers has been a nightmare for fantasy managers. We all know he is arguably the best at the position both in real life and fantasy; however, his knee injury in Week 1 has impacted his production. Despite playing every week, he has not looked completely healthy. As a result, he has steadily had four or five receptions and around 40 yards in each of the last three weeks. Although these numbers won’t hurt you at the position, this is not who we drafted in the second or third round of drafts. Unfortunately, you have to keep riding him each week, and eventually he will heal up and return to fantasy superstardom.
