Fantasy Football Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups: Tight Ends

The tight end position matters greatly in fantasy football. Tight ends are not as flashy as their route-running counterparts at wide receiver. Most of them do not normally get the same volume of touches as fantasy-relevant running backs. That can sometimes lead to them being overlooked or treated as an afterthought. Do not make that mistake.

The tight end pool is the shallowest of them all in fantasy. Finding production there weekly can be incredibly challenging, especially for those who did not invest in one of the top options during draft season.

One way to find success at the position is by carefully playing the waiver wire week-to-week. The goal of this weekly article is to help fantasy managers do just that by finding low-rostered tight ends in the best situations for that particular week.

Week 13 Fantasy Football Tight End Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups

The following tight ends are rostered in fewer than 75% of Yahoo! Leagues.

Juwan Johnson (TE – NO) at MIA | 67% Rostered

Juwan Johnson came up short of extending his touchdown streak to three games this past Sunday, but he was still quite productive against a strong Atlanta pass defense. The veteran tight end hauled in six of his seven targets for 46 yards, marking the fourth time in the last five games he finished with at least four receptions. With rookie quarterback Tyler Shough starting the last three games, Johnson has 13 receptions for 169 yards and two scores.

Johnson will face an easier matchup in Miami on Sunday. The Dolphins allow the fourth-most PPR points per game to opposing tight ends, with seven touchdowns surrendered on the season. Johnson should find several openings to make plays this week.

Chig Okonkwo (TE – TEN) vs. JAX | 17% Rostered

Speaking of attractive matchups, Chig Okonkwo has one coming up. Only the Bengals have struggled more than the Jaguars at containing tight ends. Despite the overall limitations of the Titans’ offense, Okonkwo should be able to deliver some production for fantasy managers in search of a plug-and-play at the position.

Okonkwo has hauled in three passes in both of the past two weeks, totaling 96 combined yards (16 yards per reception) against the Texans and Seahawks. Going back a little further, he has caught at least three passes in five of his last seven games. Okonkwo has yet to find the end zone this season, but the Jaguars have surrendered seven touchdowns to the position over their last eight games.

Brenton Strange (TE – JAX) at TEN | 13% Rostered

On the opposite side of the field from Chig Okonkwo is Brenton Strange, who returned from injured reserve (IR) in a big way during the Jaguars’ overtime victory in Arizona this past Sunday. After five games out, Strange did not miss a beat, showing his importance to quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ passing game once again.

Strange got right back in the mix with a 30-yard gain on the Jaguars’ first drive in Week 12. He would end up setting a new career high with 93 receiving yards on five grabs. The Titans currently rank 19th against the pass (219.7 yards per game) and 29th in points allowed per game (27.5). Strange should be set for another solid effort.
