2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Adam Randall

Adam Randall (RB – Clemson)

6-foot-2 | 235 Pounds

Background

Adam Randall was a four-star recruit and South Carolina native who began his collegiate career as a wide receiver, catching a total of 48 passes over his first three seasons before converting to running back. This past season, Randall recorded a rushing line of 168-814-10 (4.8) and caught 36-254-3 as the team’s starter.

Positives

Big, well-built player who has only recently converted to running back but already looks the part. Shows pretty good patience to let plays develop. Runs with good knee bend, which is important for a taller back. Shows good overall flexibility in his body and can maneuver through congestion better than usual for a big runner. There’s a pretty good bend to his running style, which allows him to win the corner and get upfield, showing solid build-up speed.

Gets low and has thudding power into contact, which he uses effectively to finish his carries by punishing defenders; reliably falls forward at the end of his attempts and shows good leg drive after contact. Fumbled twice this year, but looks to protect the football effectively with both hands in contact.

As you might expect from someone who spent three seasons at receiver, looks pretty comfortable catching the ball out of the backfield and has the type of size that could create mismatches against opposing defensive backs one-on-one.

Negatives

Just recently converted to running back, and is still developing his feel and vision a bit. Patient, but doesn’t have the most natural anticipation at the position yet. More flexible than he is, especially fast or explosive, and burst in the hole is closer to average.

Could be a bit more decisive in the backfield, since his build and tools are well-suited to functioning as a hammer. Cuts aren’t the sharpest. Looks better working between the tackles on concepts like inside zones. Doesn’t break a ton of tackles; more of a competitive finisher than an unstoppable force.

Despite previously playing receiver, Randall dropped 12 passes against 84 career receptions, so he’s perhaps more confident than reliable there. Has potential in pass protection, but struggled in that capacity this past season.

Summary

A big back who combines impressive flexibility with good balance, nice competitiveness after contact, some thudding power and confident receiving skills out of the backfield. Still a work in progress after spending the first three years of his collegiate career as a wideout.

Will need to continue to improve his feel and vision, including in blitz pickup, but his potential comes through on tape. Consequently, will probably get some mid-round looks as an interesting developmental candidate, especially in a relatively weak running back class.
