2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Carson Beck

Carson Beck (QB – Miami)

6’4″ – 225 lbs.

Background

Florida native and four-star recruit who originally attended Georgia. Redshirted in 2020, then spent two seasons as the backup quarterback before taking over the starting role in 2023. Led the team to a 13-1 record and Orange Bowl victory, finishing with 3,941 yards (72.4%, 9.5 YPA), 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions on the year. In 2024, went 11-2, passing for 3,485 yards (64.7%, 7.8), 28 touchdowns, and twelve interceptions, then transferred to Miami. Made it to the national title game this year, going 13-3 with 3,813 yards (72.4%, 8.2), 30 touchdowns, and twelve interceptions.

Positives

Highly experienced quarterback between two programs, with an excellent 37-6 career record. Has the size teams look for in a pro passer. Sets up with (and maintains) a wide, stable base to work from in the pocket. Shows some ability to climb or maneuver in the pocket to buy time. Works through progressions well and generally makes good decisions regarding where to go with the ball. Shows the ability to take what defenses give him and pick up free money by identifying open throws underneath, often based on pre-snap reads. Has a high release point and easy stroke. Gets good zip on short/intermediate passes as needed, with a tight spiral. The touch on his rhythm-based throws is reasonably good. Still shows the ability to drive throws when the pocket isn’t clean, with above-average arm talent. Works well off of play-action, often for shots downfield. Throws the deep ball with anticipation and confidence, and gets plenty of air under his shots downfield to drop passes into buckets over the coverage. Looks off safeties on his downfield passes.

Negatives

Spent six years in school and will be a 24-year-old rookie. A bit reliant on pre-snap recognition, which can lead to some poor decisions when the defense changes. A solid chunk of his production came on rhythm-based screens with plenty of YAC. Some throws underneath die a bit, forcing receivers to go to the ground or otherwise adjust, rather than sticking it on their numbers. Some of his deep throws can hang, and his trust for receivers can sometimes lead to high-risk throws into coverage. Accuracy suffers when pushed off of his spot, as he doesn’t always reset his feet effectively. Would be nice to see him live to fight another day at times, as he can turn pressure into risky throws. Not the most athletic quarterback and isn’t the type of guy teams will likely scheme designed runs for.

Summary

A three-year starter and proven winner at the college level, he offers the size, recognition skills, processing, and arm talent to operate effectively from the pocket as a traditional pro-style quarterback. However, there are some inconsistencies to his game which also prevent him from being the most reliable player on a snap-to-snap basis; doesn’t always respond well to pressure, and his deep balls can hang at times. Consequently, will likely be drafted as more of a high-end backup and game manager, with some starting upside if he cleans up those issues.

Projection: Round 3-4
