2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Spencer Fano

Spencer Fano (OT – Utah)

6-foot-6 | 308 Pounds

Background

Utah native who was ranked as a four-star recruit, Spencer Fano started 12 out of 13 games as a true freshman (the first 12 at left tackle, the Las Vegas Bowl on the right side) and finished the season with two sacks and 21 combined sacks + hits + pressures allowed.

Flipped over to the right side in 2024 and has been there ever since, with one sack and 14 combined sacks + hits + pressures in 2024 and zero sacks and five combined sacks + hits + pressures through the regular season in 2025, per Pro Football Focus (PFF).

Positives

Tall, athletically built three-year starter with experience on both ends of the offensive line. Fano has shown a lot of improvement since flipping from the left side to the right. Has all of the tools teams look for in an offensive tackle prospect, with excellent mobility and range to pull or otherwise work in space.

Explosive athlete with good burst out of his stance to cross a defender’s face and execute hook blocks. Was trusted with difficult blocking assignments regularly and performed well. Understands positioning and does a nice job of walling off opponents. Generally gets good extension to lock out opponents.

Fano’s hand placement and excellent work rate allow him to stick with opponents through the whistle. Shows good leg drive after contact to flow with the play or take advantage of off-balance defenders. In pass protection, Fano looks comfortable protecting the edge with depth in his kickslide, doing a nice job of maintaining his balance, form and base.

Utah successfully left Fano on islands against opposing rushers. Light on his feet with good lateral quickness to cut off EDGE rushers working inside moves. Proactive and accurate with his hands in pass protection, and also does a good job of resetting. Very well-suited to leading the way in the screen game.

Negatives

Fano struggled a bit at left tackle as a freshman. Can occasionally overrun his landmarks, forcing him into more difficult situations, and a bit more patience wouldn’t hurt. Probably better classified as active and workmanlike than nasty.

The Utah tackle has a minor and occasional tendency to lower his head in pass protection, which can force him into recovery mode. Doesn’t appear to have quite as much sand in his pants as some of the other top tackle prospects in this year’s class, and can occasionally be ground down by bull-rushers. Can surprise defenders with his punch when helping teammates, but generally doesn’t show the most violent hands.

Summary

One of the most athletic right tackles you’ll see, with excellent body control, lateral quickness and range, plus a strong motor, which allows Fano to easily stick with opponents, even when executing difficult blocking assignments.

Fano’s versatility in the run game and ability to work on an island against explosive EDGE rushers should make him one of the top tackles off the board. Enjoyed more success at right tackle over the past two years than he did as a freshman left tackle. Wouldn’t be surprising if some teams viewed him primarily as a blindside protector.
