2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Taylen Green

Taylen Green (QB – Arkansas)

6’6″ – 224 lbs.

Background

Texas native who originally attended Boise State, where he appeared in two games before redshirting in 2021, then took over the starting job the following year, replacing the injured Hank Bachmeier. Led the team to an 8-2 record as the starter, with 2,042 yards (61.3%, 7.5 YPA), 14 touchdowns, and six interceptions, adding 81-588-10 (7.3) on the ground. Went 7-5 as the Broncos’ starter the next year, with 1,752 yards (57.1%, 8.3), eleven touchdowns, and nine interceptions, with 78-436-9 (5.6) rushing. Transferred to Arkansas for the 2024 season and went 7-6 as the starter (3,154 yards, 60.4%, 8.3, 15 touchdowns, nine interceptions, 156-602-8 rushing). This past year, went just 2-9, with 2,714 yards (60.7%, 8.3), 19 touchdowns, eleven interceptions, and 139-777-8 (5.6) rushing.

Positives

Tall, well-built four-year starter between two different programs. Has recently been playing in a relatively pro-style offense which featured work from under center. Sets up quick with a wide, stable base, and generally does a good job of transferring weight into throws. Has a high release point and gets the ball out quickly on rhythm-based throws. Shows some ability to work through progressions. Throws with appropriate touch and can layer throws to the intermediate level. Gets pretty good zip on the ball when needed, and can muscle some throws while he’s improvising. Flexible player who’s able to move well in the pocket to buy time against pressure, and can pirouette or run away from edge rushers. Can complete passes while on the move to either side. A legitimate dual-threat, with long strides and impressive top-end speed; has been extensively used on designed runs (zone reads, draws, power, counter), and can also pick up first downs when his reads aren’t there.

Negatives

Isn’t coming off his most successful campaign, so trajectory isn’t quite what you’d like. Processing speed isn’t the quickest, and will need to improve decision-making to limit turnovers. There’s some unnecessary pocket movement to his game when things are blocked well for him up front. Sometimes feels like he’s trying to do too much rather than living to fight another day, which can compound negative plays and turn them into disasters. Throws with pretty good accuracy from a clean pocket, but hasn’t been a very efficient quarterback overall, and can force adjustments which limit yards after the catch even on completed throws. Takes a decent amount of punishment as a runner, and you’d like to see him get down more often.

Summary

A tall dual-threat with pretty good arm talent, solid touch, and an impressive ability to escape from pressure and create when the play breaks down, but whose overall decision-making and efficiency wax and wane. Has starting-caliber tools if he improves his processing speed and cuts down on unnecessary risks, rather than trying to do too much. However, those inconsistencies to his game will probably make him more of a third-day developmental option, especially given that he’s already got four seasons as a starter under his belt.

Projection: Round 5-6
