2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Caleb Douglas

Caleb Douglas (WR – Texas Tech)

6-foot-4 | 205 Pounds

Background

Caleb Douglas was a four-star recruit who originally attended the University of Florida, appearing in 15 games over two seasons and catching 21 passes; his sophomore season ended early after fracturing his fibula. Transferred to Texas Tech and caught 60-877-6 (14.6) as a starter in 2024. Put together a similar senior-season line of 54-846-7 (15.7) this past year.

Positives

Productive two-year starter with plenty of size and length for a pro split end. Shows solid build-up speed to eat up cushions against off coverage, with legitimate ability to threaten defenses downfield. Able to run away from opposing cornerbacks on man-beaters like crossers and over routes. Doesn’t need to gear down much through the stems of his routes, and has nice burst out of his breaks on patterns like deep posts down the field. Tracks the ball well over his shoulder downfield. Big frame makes him a forgiving target for the quarterback, with some ability to snatch throws away from his body; can also be used on fades toward the end zone. Racks up a lot of yards after the catch when he has some space to work with. Shows pretty good competitiveness and effort as a stalker, and has potential there because of his size.

Negatives

Doesn’t have the ideal strength to release at the line or stay on time against physical cornerbacks. The route tree is a bit simple, with a heavy focus on deep shots and a few concepts like curls, building on those. Goes through the stems of his routes a little bit high and occasionally has balance issues when trying to snap off routes. Ability to use his frame to box out defenders leaves something to be desired, and doesn’t flatten out/carve back his routes to prevent interceptions as much as you’d like; also struggled to come down with contested catches throughout his career. Focus drops/catch technique have been a bit of an issue, and became a bigger one this past season, with seven drops against 54 catches. Doesn’t show a lot of functional strength or ability to sustain as a blocker, especially for a player of his size.

Summary

A height-weight-speed project with impressive physical and athletic tools. He can threaten defenses down the field, looking fast through the stem once he gets going. At this point, he’s not the most polished player overall, with many of the issues resulting from a lack of functional strength, and some additional balance issues as well. Consequently, looks like he’ll probably be more of a late-round pick, but the upside is there, so he looks like he’ll probably hear his name called and could outperform expectations with time in a pro strength program.

Projection: Round 6
