2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Dae’Quan Wright

Dae’Quan Wright (TE – Ole Miss)

6-foot-4 | 255 Pounds

Background

Three-star recruit who originally attended Virginia Tech, where he caught 19-208-0 (10.9) as a freshman before stepping into the starting lineup and catching 28-366-0 (13.1). Transferred to Mississippi and posted 27-394-4 (14.6) before breaking out this past year with 39-635-5 (16.3).

Positives

Well-built four-year contributor between two different programs, with escalating production each year and an impressive 2025 line. Often lines up as an H-back, but also works from the slot on a regular basis. Flashes some pretty good pop on contact when cracking backside pursuers. Has the athleticism to get out in space and get in the way of defenders. Appears to have pretty good lower-body strength to hold the point of attack, especially when he gets his hands involved; was also retained in pass protection a bit more often than usual, holding his own there. Smooth accelerator with pretty good build-up speed and good flexibility. Flashes some suddenness at the route stem. Presents his quarterback with a big target, especially given his ability to pluck the ball/adjust to throws away from his frame. Gets upfield quickly after the catch, with a no-nonsense approach and the ability to make the occasional defender miss, or break the occasional tackle.

Negatives

Doesn’t show the most consistent sense of urgency or physicality as a blocker; effort seems to wane too much. Form as a blocker leaves a lot to be desired; puts too many snaps on tape where he’s throwing a shoulder or hitting opponents, rather than engaging with his hands and proper balance. He was primarily used as an underneath receiver/safety valve type releasing into the flats, running hitches and hooks, etc., and doesn’t look the most explosive when threatening down the seams. Struggles at times to stay on track when dealing with physicality through the route, with balance issues cropping up. Hands aren’t the most reliable, with twelve career drops against 113 catches. Has really struggled in contested-catch situations, especially for a tight end with his frame.

Summary

A big, flexible, and pretty smooth tight end with above-average athleticism for the position and some pretty good ball skills, he put together one of the most productive receiving seasons of any tight end in the class this past year. However, his blocking tape leaves a lot to be desired; the raw tools are there, but he doesn’t play with consistent effort, physicality, or form in the run game. If he takes blocking more seriously, he could be a pretty good pro, but as it currently stands, he looks a bit riskier than some of the other options projected to go around that point.
