2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jack Endries
Jack Endries (TE – Texas)
6’4″ – 236 lbs.
Background
California native who also walked on to California-Berkley, where he redshirted in 2022 before taking over the starting tight end job and holding that for two seasons. Posted 35-407-2 (11.6) in 2023 and 56-623-2 (11.1) in 2024 before transferring to Texas. This past year, caught 33-346-3 (10.5) for the Longhorns to conclude his collegiate career.
Positives
Worked his way up from a walk-on to become a productive three-year starter for two major programs. Predominantly lines up as an H-Back, but also takes snaps out of the slot fairly regularly. Shows good willingness as a blocker, often inserting into the hole and taking on opponents in the run game. Overall effectiveness as a blocker has improved throughout his career. Has the lateral quickness to mirror opponents when blocking on the backside, and exhibits a good understanding of positioning overall to wall off opponents. Patiently and effectively lines up opponents in space as a stalker on screens. Works to sustain through the whistle. A smooth mover on passing downs, often working over the middle of the field on crossers, over routes, etc., but who can also challenge the seams a bit. Does a nice job of using his hands to avoid jams from off-coverage. Shows a good feel for making minor adjustments, settling into soft spots against zones and creating opportunities as an improviser when the play breaks down. Comfortable hands-catcher who has been a high-percentage option in the passing game, catching over three quarters of his career targets and showing soft hands on throws away from his frame. Shows good concentration to make catches through contact. Able to weave through traffic after the catch, with good competitiveness to finish plays as a runner.
Negatives
Build is on the lighter side, even for a modern tight end, so he’ll likely be viewed as a flex-only option rather than an inline candidate. Doesn’t have the most functional strength as a blocker, and can be jolted on contact by bigger defenders. Ability to sustain blocks is just average. A smooth athlete, but not the fastest or most explosive, and works better against zone coverage. Routes can be disrupted by physicality when opponents get their hands into his body. Glides through some of his stems, without the most precise footwork at the top of routes, and doesn’t seem to have the most flexibility in his ankles.
Summary
A smooth, reliable tight end who provided high-percentage looks underneath zone coverage, often on routes crossing the middle of the field, his progress from walk-on to three-year starter has been impressive, with a trajectory that’s pointing up. As it currently stands, he needs to continue to add functional strength as a blocker and become a more detailed route-runner, but looks like he could develop into a solid safety valve at the pro level. Looks to be in the mid-round mix at this point.
Projection: Round 4-5
