2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jam Miller

Jam Miller (RB – Alabama)

5’10” – 218 lbs.

Background

Four-star recruit out of Tyler, Texas who played sparingly behind Roydell Williams and Jase McClellan in his first two seasons with the team, posting a couple hundred yards in each year. Then received the lion’s share of running back carries in rotations over the past two seasons, with 145-668-7 (4.6) in 2024 and 130-504-3 (3.9) in 2025.

Positives

Very thickly-built ballcarrier who managed to establish himself as the most prominent member of Alabama’s running back stable during the DeBoer era, which has featured a pretty even balance between gap and zone concepts. Doesn’t have a ton of tread on his tires. Runs with a naturally low center of gravity and good knee-bend. Has some quickness in his feet to execute one-cut concepts. Decisive player with some burst between the tackles. You can really hear the pads clicking on contact, with some explosive power. Does a nice job of getting low behind his pads and burrowing ahead for gains between the tackles, showing impressive competitiveness and leg drive to fight for additional yardage. Consistently falls forward at the end of his runs, with pretty good contact balance. Actually has pretty good flexibility in his ankles to bend smooth arcs upfield when he’s able to get around the edge. Ball security is very good, with sound technique and only two fumbles on 350 career rushing attempts.

Negatives

Even as the team’s lead back, never really served as a true bellcow, and his game-to-game effectiveness and output varied significantly. Doesn’t have a ton of speed to consistently win the edge on outside rushing concepts. Not the most creative or elusive player; definitely more likely to deliver a hit than to make someone miss in a phone booth. Speed is that of a chunk runner. Wasn’t a huge part of the team’s passing game, and doesn’t have the most reliable hands, dropping five passes against 40 career receptions; also may not have the ideal elusiveness to scheme into space. Has the strength and physicality to become an effective pass protector, but anticipation and positioning leave something to be desired, and doesn’t have a ton of in-game experience in that capacity.

Summary

A barrel-chested, decisive, and powerful runner who brings a no-nonsense approach to the position, shuffling into a lane, getting behind his pads, and delivering shots to opposing defenders, driving his feet to pick up yardage after contact. Those traits could make him an effective short-yardage/goal-line hammer at the next level, despite his lack of ideal creativity or passing-down value. Looks like he might be able to sneak into the late rounds in a relatively light class at the position.

Projection: Round 6-7
