2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Michael Trigg

Michael Trigg (TE – Baylor)

6’4″ – 240 lbs.

Background

Played both football and basketball in high school. Originally played for the USC Trojans, catching seven balls in 2021 before transferring to Mississippi. Spent two years with the Rebels, appearing in ten games and catching 21 passes before leaving the team in September 2023 (no reason was specified) and transferring to Baylor. Caught 30-395-3 (13.2) in 2024, then enjoyed a highly productive 2025 campaign of 50-694-6 (13.9).

Positives

Development trajectory is pointing up after two increasingly productive seasons with Baylor. Relatively long-limbed tight end who lines up all over the field, typically as a receiver of some sort (over two-thirds of snaps) or as an H-Back. Takes his blocking responsibilities seriously, with good competitiveness and physicality there; does a nice job of lining up opponents in space, whether as a stalker or when motioning to crack backside defenders. Functional strength is good overall, and certainly better than anticipated for a player of his size. Works hard to sustain through the whistle, drives his legs after contact, and shows some nastiness as a finisher. Long-strider with good build-up speed as a receiver, and can threaten defenses down the seams. Flashes the ability to sink his hips into the stem. Natural hands-catcher with a good radius and the body control to adjust to throws away from his frame. Does a pretty nice job of using his frame to shield opponents from the ball, showing box-out skills which appear influenced by his basketball background. Shows a bit of shiftiness and power after the catch.

Negatives

Has the type of blocking skills that could potentially translate to the “Y” spot, but didn’t see him take many snaps inline during the games reviewed. Hand placement when blocking can sometimes be too far outside, which could lead to penalties. Would like to see his pad level a bit lower/base a bit wider as a blocker. Faster in a straight line than he is flexible and fluid as a mover. Tends to go through his route stems a bit high, and without a ton of snap. Surprisingly easy to disrupt while running routes, and his physicality as a blocker doesn’t really carry over into his route-running. Focus drops have been an issue, having been credited with seven this past season. Caught less than half of his career contested catches, per PFF.

Summary

A long-limbed flex tight end who shows good competitiveness as a blocker and offers a solid combination of speed and ball skills as a receiver, but whose game is a bit raw at this point. As it currently stands, his effort and physicality in the run game are more impressive than his technique, and he could also stand to become a more focused receiver, with a greater emphasis on route-running craftsmanship. Still, there’s a lot of potential here, so look for him to draw plenty of interest as a developmental flex with upside.

Projection: Round 3-4
