2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Romello Height
Romello Height (EDGE – Texas Tech)
6-foot-3 | 240 Pounds
Background
Romello Height began his collegiate career at Auburn, where he spent two years (19 tackles in 2021) before transferring to USC, where he also stayed for two seasons (20-6.0-4.0 in 2023). He transferred to Georgia Tech in 2024, posting 34-6.5-2.5, then spent 2025 at Texas Tech, putting together an impressive 38-11.5-10.0 line.
Positives
Height really put everything together this past season and made a name for himself. Plays with pretty good discipline in the run game, maintaining gap integrity. Willing to take on opposing linemen rather than always working around them, showing a competitive temperament. Has the explosiveness and lateral quickness to knife through gaps and disrupt play designs in the backfield. Flows fast toward the ball and has impressive range as a run defender.
Appears to have pretty good length, which gives him a solid radius as a tackler. Quick-twitch EDGE who has one of the fastest first steps in the class and can threaten the edge with speed on passing downs. Height was at his best when rushing from a wide alignment that let him pin his ears back and get after the passer.
Has good flexibility when working around the corner and can dip a shoulder and bend a nice arc to the passer without gearing down. Shows pretty nice balance with his spin move to catch oversetting tackles off guard, and also mixes in some inside moves as well. Contact balance is a bit better than expected as he’s passing through. Looks fast when making spot drops into zone coverages.
Negatives
Height is a bit older than usual after spending six years in school between four programs. Frame is on the smaller side, so he might be viewed as more of an odd-front-only EDGE prospect. Not someone who’s going to control a lot of blockers on early downs, and looks much better when he’s penetrating than when he’s trying to hold the point of attack.
Doesn’t have a pronounced power element as a pass-rusher and probably isn’t going to bull rush many pro tackles. Can get stuck on blocks when his first move is unsuccessful. Could stand to develop an arsenal of counters for those situations.
Summary
Height has one of the fastest, most explosive first steps in the class, and is consequently among the most effective prospects in the class when it comes to winning the edge with speed on passing downs.
While he doesn’t have a ton of power in his game, Height also shows competitiveness on early downs. Is capable of disrupting plays by knifing into the backfield. Those traits should have him off the board within the first 50 picks or so, likely as a stand-up rush linebacker on an odd front, which prioritizes aggressiveness.
