Treydan Stukes (CB – Arizona)

6’2″ – 200 lbs.

Background

Arizona native who walked on to the Wildcats. Redshirted in 2020, then started five of twelve games played the next season as an outside corner, finishing with 31 tackles and seven breakups. Started another seven games on the outside in 2022 (55 tackles, nine breakups, one interception) before taking over a full-time starting role in the slot for the 2023 season. Recorded 55 tackles, nine breakups, and an interception that season, then saw his 2024 campaign end due to an ACL tear after just four appearances (18 tackles, two breakups, one pick.) Rebounded this past season with his best year yet: 55 tackles, six breakups, and four picks.

Positives

Big defensive back who has over three years of combined starting experience between the outside and the nickel, playing more of the latter this past season. Sits in a lot of zones, shading over the slot and playing off-coverage. Flexible player with loose hips for a bigger corner, and shows pretty good footwork to depth, doing a nice job of keeping things in front of him and avoiding false steps. Looks confident and relaxed pattern-matching from off coverage. Makes pretty clean transitions from his backpedal when shaded over in zone coverage, and has solid closing speed once he gets going. Length allows him to affect throws when in-phase, and showed very good ball skills this past season in particular. Thudding hitter who can serve as a tone-setter/enforcer type, jarring the ball loose on in-breaking routes over the middle of the field; has good timing to avoid penalties when initiating contact as well. Shows good willingness to come down and support the run, attacking blocks with aggression. Has the flexibility to slip around would-be blockers to get to the ball. Length gives him an impressive tackling radius, and has been pretty reliable there.

Negatives

Spent six years in school, so he’s older than your typical prospect. Has the size and length to play closer to the line, but wasn’t asked to do a ton of press-man during the games reviewed; usage was very much that of an off-zone nickel. Doesn’t have the most anticipation/twitch at the route stem, creating opportunities for timing-based throws. Chippy, but can struggle to hold the point of attack when dropping down into the box. Torn ACL sustained in 2024 will require further investigation.

Summary

A bit older than your typical prospect, but plays with polish and offers extensive inside-outside experience, with a large frame, pretty good athleticism, and solid processing/timing from off coverage. It can be a bit hard to evaluate him in some respects, because he was often playing off-zone and keeping things in front of him rather than showing a wide variety of techniques, but what’s on tape looks good, especially this past season. The player looks worth a second-day pick, but how teams feel about his age/knee could affect his stock.
