Fantasy Football Dynasty Rookie Draft Advice: Jadarian Price

Following the departure of Kenneth Walker III to the Chiefs, the Seahawks find a replacement with the last pick of the first round. Price split time with Jeremiyah Love at Notre Dame and totaled 674 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Fighting Irish last season. He has good size and speed and is more of a downhill runner who does a good job finding open lanes. He also had three kickoff returns for touchdowns, and, although that job is locked up by Rashid Shaheed, he does give the Seahawks another option on special teams as well. Price’s style of running should play nicely with Zach Charbonnet and newly-acquired Emanuel Wilson. He figures to be firmly in the first round of dynasty rookie drafts, and he could now go as early as a mid-first given his landing spot and questionable early outlooks for some of the other Round 1 rookies.

Price goes 32nd overall to the Seahawks, which is the best-case scenario for the “other” running back out of Notre Dame. With the departure of Kenneth Walker, Seattle has 250 touches available in their backfield. Add to that the fact Zach Charbonnet tore his ACL and had surgery in late February, and it isn’t hard to envision a scenario where Price steps into a sizable role as a rookie. Price has elite vision, and he averaged 6.0 YPC in his final two seasons in South Bend, making him a good fit in Seattle, where their offense is well-positioned for him to succeed. He will have to contend with veteran Emanuel Wilson for touches, so this isn’t going to be a situation where Price has the backfield all to himself, but his draft capital and overall profile give him a lot of fantasy appeal. He will rightfully be a first-round pick in all dynasty rookie drafts, and he makes for a nice mid-round target in redraft as well.

DBro’s NFL Draft Scouting Report & Player Comp: Jadarian Price

Scouting Report:

  • Price has easy and immediate acceleration. He doesn’t have a truly elite home run gear, but I won’t be surprised if his runs in the low to mid 4.4s in the 40 with a strong 10-yard split. The strong acceleration makes him appear shot out of a cannon on many runs.
  • He’s a scheme-agnostic runner. Price has the contact balance and lower body strength to handle runs up the A gap while displaying the speed to consistently win the edge with stretch zone plays. Price has an awesome feel for pressing the line and exploding upfield. He can create yards for himself and make defenders look silly when he looks dead to rights with his short-area agility, vision, and decisiveness.
  • Price is an adventure as a pass protector. He has more than a few reps where he was late on blitz pickup. If you’re asking him to redirect incoming rushers or chip a defender, Price looks competent, but tasking him with holding his area of grass and standing up a rusher is more of a tall order.
  • Price has a limited resume as a pass catcher in college with only 18 targets, but when he was asked to catch passes, he displayed soft, dependable hands (zero drops) and looked comfortable doing so. He transitions well from receiver to runner immediately.
