Fantasy Baseball Trade Advice: Buy Low & Sell High Now

The early weeks of the MLB season are where sharp fantasy baseball managers separate themselves. Small sample sizes create overreactions, and that opens the door to buy-low and sell-high opportunities. This week’s trade market features a mix of struggling stars and overperforming names worth flipping before regression hits.

Fantasy Baseball Trade Advice: Buy Low & Sell High Now

Here’s how to approach four key players right now.

Logan Gilbert (SP – SEA)

There’s a clear disconnect between the surface stats and the underlying metrics for Logan Gilbert. A mid-4.00 ERA and elevated WHIP might scare off impatient managers, but everything under the hood suggests he’s still an elite arm.

His SIERA and FIP both sit comfortably in the low-3.00 range, and his strikeout minus walk rate remains strong. The stuff hasn’t changed. Velocity, command, and pitch mix all look intact. What you’re seeing is the result of a couple shaky outings skewing the line.

That’s exactly the profile you target. This is a classic buy-low window where you can get a frontline starter at a slight discount. Expect positive regression sooner rather than later.

Vinnie Pasquantino (1B, DH – KC)

If you’re looking for a hitter to stash before a breakout stretch, Vinnie Pasquantino fits perfectly.

The production hasn’t been there yet, but the indicators are encouraging. His batting average on balls in play is sitting at an unsustainably low mark, and recent at-bats show improving contact quality. He’s hitting the ball hard and starting to find a rhythm.

This is still a hitter with 25-30 home run potential in a lineup that should generate more run production as players around him heat up. Fantasy managers often panic early, especially when cold streaks hit in April. That creates a buying opportunity.

If you can acquire him at a discount, you’re betting on track record and expected regression. That’s usually a profitable play.

Clay Holmes (SP – NYM)

On the flip side, Clay Holmes is the type of arm you should be actively shopping.

The ERA looks great. The WHIP looks great. The underlying skills do not.

Holmes is striking out just a small percentage of hitters, and his strikeout minus walk rate sits near the bottom tier of qualified pitchers. That’s not the profile of someone who sustains a low-2.00 ERA. Contact rates against him are also trending in the wrong direction.

This is the definition of a sell-high candidate. The results are outpacing the skill set, and eventually, that gap closes. When it does, it won’t be pretty.

If someone in your league believes the breakout is real, take advantage now before the regression hits.

Oneil Cruz (OF – PIT)

Few players are more exciting right now than Oneil Cruz. Power and speed are showing up in a big way, and the stat line jumps off the page.

That’s exactly why you should consider selling.

Cruz has historically struggled with contact, and the underlying metrics suggest those issues haven’t gone away. His swing-and-miss rates are high, his chase rate is elevated, and he continues to hit a significant number of ground balls. That combination makes sustained elite production unlikely.

Yes, the upside is real. But so is the volatility. Fantasy managers often get caught holding the bag when the inevitable slump hits.

If you can flip Cruz for a more stable top-tier asset, especially in redraft formats, it’s a move worth making.
