IDP Fantasy Football Draft Strategy & Advice
IDP Draft Strategy: DL
The defensive line is the most rotated position in football, which makes it the thinnest position for Individual Defensive Player (IDP) leagues. There were 38 defensive backs and linebackers apiece who had over 1,000 snaps in 2024, while only 19 defensive linemen recorded 800 snaps (none reached 1,000). Linebackers who are on the field that much are almost guaranteed for floor production, and most defensive backs would receive that, too, with the exception being shutdown cornerbacks, who don’t get thrown at.
IDP Draft Strategy: LB
While linebacker is deep at first glance, we have to treat it like we do wide receivers on the offensive side and stay above water in the ‘arms race’ of starters. We saw 31 linebackers last season average 60+ snaps, and 24 more averaged between 50 and 60 snaps. That number drops to only 16 between 40-50 snaps. Snap counts automatically tier the linebacker position for the most part, so looking more granularly shows us the production gap. Let’s dive into our fantasy football IDP draft primer for linebackers.
IDP Draft Strategy: DB
Patience is the key to success when drafting in fantasy football individual defensive player (IDP) leagues. Travis Hunter might be a difference-maker at the position if you can get his offensive output, but no other defensive back is going to make or break your team. Ninety-eight defensive backs recorded 800+ snaps in 2024, making for a lot of high-floor players. If you are reading this, I want you to be the last person to pick a defensive back unless everyone is playing chicken in your draft.
