On Monday, it was reported that Red Sox ace Chris Sale visited Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his ailing elbow and learned that, while he needed a PRP injection, he would not need Tommy John surgery. However, former MLB insider and former MLB general manager Jim Bowden believes that there is more to the story that the Red Sox are not sharing and is not 100% convinced that Tommy John surgery is completely off the table for Sale.

Notes
There are a handful of starting pitchers that stand out above the rest, but Sale and Scherzer may belong in a tier of their own at this point. Sale posted an unfathomable 0.861 WHIP last season and 13.5 K/9. As long as he returns to health, we could be looking at a 340 Ks
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
You can look at Cole's 3.50 second half ERA and assume he got worse over the season, but all the underlying numbers suggest he was actually better. Don't shy away from him because of a false fear of his risk. Rather, expect another 250+ strikeouts with plenty of wins and excellent ratios
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
If there is one pitcher who can match Max Scherzer in terms of dominance, it's Sale, who is coming off a season in which he produced a 2.11 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 13.5 K/9 rate. But those numbers came in just 158 innings, as Sale spent some time on the DL due to shoulder inflammation. Durability concerns add a little bit of risk to Sale's profile, but his immense upsides means that he should still be the second pitcher off the board in fantasy drafts.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Cole was trending in a bad direction over his last couple years in Pittsburgh, but a move to Houston completely revived his career. As an Astro, Cole ditched an ineffective sinker and dramatically increased his spin rate on his fastball, and the result was a career-best 12.4 K/9 rate along with a shiny 2.88 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Cole doesn't have the extended track record of dominance that some of the other fantasy aces possess, but there is little reason to doubt that he can replicate his success in his second season in Houston.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
If a shoulder injury hadn't limited him to 158 innings, Sale would be competing with Max Scherzer for the top SP slot. He led all starters (with at least 150 IP) in K-BB% (32.9) and FIP (1.98) while posting a 2.11 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. While he'll draw no sympathy from Jacob deGrom, a dozen wins in 27 starts is a bit underwhelming for a superstar pitching for the World Series champions. He had previously topped 200 innings in three straight seasons and is turning 30 around Opening Day, so he's not necessarily a significant injury risk compared to the typical starter. Sale is a stud worth selecting as a staff anchor to end the first or commence the second round.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
The Astros unlocked Cole's ace upside by tabling a middling sinker for more sliders and curveballs. He also revamped his fastball, which yielded a .268 wOBA after allowing a .334 wOBA in his last year with the Pirates. As a result, his strikeout and swinging-strike rates skyrocketed to 34.5 and 14.1%, respectively. His contact rate dropped eight points to 71.5, and he earned his 2.88 ERA with a 2.70 FIP and 2.91 SIERA. Trust the breakout and treat the strikeout artist on a title contender as a borderline top-five hurler alongside teammate Justin Verlander.
