Fifty-three home runs. Pete Alonso surpassed the lofty expectations that he had entering his rookie year, and while you can attribute some of that to the ball, Alonso's power is still among the most elite in the game. Is he going to give you a lot of home runs and RBIs but not much elsewhere? Yeah, probably, but here's the thing with the argument that he's going to give you stats that are easy to find elsewhere - you need even more to win those categories now. If everyone is hitting bombs, get the guy who can out-homer them - especially at a top-heavy position like first base.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
What set Paul Goldschmidt apart from the other first basemen for years were his steals. Over the past four years, his stolen base totals have dropped from 32 to 18, to 7, to 3 last year. He had 34 home runs, which were nice, but he also had his lowest triple-slash line since his rookie year in 2011. He'll still give you production at a shallow position, but this isn't going to be a gradual decline with Goldschmidt.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
It feels odd that a rookie can hit 53 homers with 120 RBIs then end up draft towards the end of the third round but that's exactly what we have here. 60 homrs is a real possibility but then again, so are 35 homers with a .235 batting average, similar to the disappointment fantasy owners had with Hoskins last season.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Goldschmidt's batting average may have dipped thanks to a slow start but he finished with 30+ homers for the third consecutive season and very nearly went for 100 runs and 100 RBIs. More than likely, that batting average will end up north of .280 again too which would make him a steal at the end of the fifth round.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
His production has been on a steady decline over the past three years as he has gotten older, and that is not something I plan on buying into in the 5th round.
