LHP Ryan Merritt has been named the first starting pitcher of the Indians' Spring Training campaign when they take on the Reds on Saturday.

The unheralded left-hander blasted onto the scene with 4 1/3 shutout frames in Game 5 of the ALCS vs. Blue Jays. The 25-year-old is the epitome of a finesse pitcher with excellent control. He has limited upside in fantasy with only an average curveball and average changeup to partner his high 80s fastball. Merritt will likely start 2017 in Triple-A where he made 24 starts last year with 3.70 ERA and 5.80 SO/9. Expect him to build upon last season's experience and he will be the first or second called upon when the Indians' rotation needs strengthening.
