Brewers have interest in Jonathan Papelbon

Jonathan Papelbon (RP - FA)

In the midst of a rebuilding process, the Philadelphia Phillies have already traded Jimmy Rolling, Marlon Byrd and Antonio Bastardo. Now it appears the Milwaukee Brewers have been talking to the Phillies about acquiring Jonathan Papelbon. The problem is that the Brewers are one of 17 teams to which Papelbon could block a trade. Papelbon could approve a deal, but he'd require his $13 million option for 2016 to be guaranteed. (CSNPhilly.com)

Fantasy Impact
Should Papelbon be traded to the Brewers or any of the 12 teams to which he'd accept a trade, Ken Giles would likely become the closer for the Phiillies. Giles was 3-1 with a 1.18 ERA last season with 64 strikeouts and just 11 walks in 45 2/3 innings. Papelbon would likely have more save opportunities should be he traded to a contender and is still among the top closers in the game. Both Papelbon and Giles should be significant fantasy contributors this season.
