Castillo opted out of the 2020 season and was part of the Nationals' minor-league system in 2021. He had, however, been a member of Washington's taxi squad for two road trips this season. The 34-year-old was 4-for-28 through 11 games at Triple-A this year. He retires with a .254/.313/.426 career slash line and 98 homers through 726 games in the majors.
