Fantasy Impact
Melancon declined his option with the San Diego Padres in November and became a free agent. He ends up with Arizona on a two-year deal, including a third-year option with a $2 million buyout. The 36-year-old converted 39’of 45 save opportunities with a 2.23 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts over 64 2/3 innings in 2021. Melancon is expected to be the Diamondbacks' closer and is a good bet to lead the team in saves in 2022. The veteran right-hander will be a top-15 reliever heading into 2022 fantasy drafts.
