Kimbrel struggles in spring training debut

by Tommy Grevlos | Orioles Correspondent | Thu, Mar 24th 1:47pm EDT

White Sox reliever Craig Kimbrel was shelled for 5 runs (4 earned) and could only record 2 outs in his spring debut. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 more, and stuck out 1 batter.

Fantasy Impact:

After a brutal start to his White Sox tenure in 2021, Kimbrel didn't do anything to ease Sox fans' concerns about his place in a very deep bullpen. In his 24 appearances after joining the South Siders at the trade deadline last year, Kimbrel recorded a 5.09 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP, compared to a 0.49 ERA and 0.71 WHIP in 36 appearances for the Cubs. It should be noted that he was the closer for the Cubs before taking the role of set up man for Liam Hendricks on the Sox. In his career, Kimbrel has struggled mightily when he's pitched in a role other than closer. There's a chance he's dealt to a team in need of a closer either before opening day or at the deadline. Kimbrel is MLB's active leader in saves with 372.
