After a miserable July that saw Gallardo go 0-3 with a 5.46 ERA in six starts, the month of August has been much kinder. Gallardo won for the third time in four starts (a no-decision vs. Twins on Aug. 11) in leading Texas to a 5-3 win over Detroit today. Gallardo (10-9) went six scoreless innings, scattering eight hits while walking one and striking out four.

The Rangers almost let the game get away from them in the ninth inning. With the score 5-0, reliever Sam Dyson allowed a pair of base runners with two out, and former Ranger Ian Kinsler blasted a three-run homer off of closer Shawn Tolleson. Tolleson was then able to record the final out to preserve the victory.
