Strasburg was set to announce his plans to retire at the end of the 2023 season, but those plans were delayed as he and the Nationals continued to negotiate the terms of the retirement. The No. 1 draft pick in 2009 signed a $245 million contract extension in 2019, but only threw 530 pitches in the big leagues after that as he struggled to recover from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Strasburg exits the league with three All-Star selections and a World Series MVP on his resume.
