Carlos Santana is set to begin the 2025 season as the Guardians’ primary first baseman, according to Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com. With Josh Naylor departing, David Fry (elbow) limited to DH duties, and top prospect Kyle Manzardo still developing, Santana is expected to handle everyday reps at first base. The veteran signed a one-year, $12 million deal this offseason, marking his third stint with Cleveland.
Fantasy Impact:
Santana remains a viable option in deeper fantasy formats, especially with his strong splits against left-handed pitching (.286/.356/.578 in 2024). He hit 23 home runs last season while slashing .238/.328/.420, offering moderate power and on-base skills. While Manzardo could eventually push for playing time, Santana should see steady at-bats to open the year, making him a useful late-round depth piece in fantasy leagues.
