Ryne Stanek lined up for eighth-inning role with Mets

by Bruno Mulé | Fri, Feb 28th 12:17pm EST

Ryne Stanek is slated to handle eighth-inning duties alongside A.J. Minter (hip) ahead of Mets closer Edwin Diaz, per team reports.

Fantasy Impact:

Stanek’s 2024 stint with the Mets was rocky—think 6.06 ERA over 17 outings after coming over from Seattle—but his 23:8 K:BB in 16.1 innings earned him a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with incentives. The 33-year-old has setup chops, flashing a 2.41 ERA and 38 holds across 123 frames in 2021-22 with Houston. He’s in line for holds in deeper leagues, but if he falters, names like Reed Garrett, Dedniel Nunez (elbow), and Jose Butto could step up. Fantasy managers should monitor his spring to gauge the trust level.
