Tsung-Che Cheng has been claimed off of waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays. Cheng was designated for assignment by the Pirates last month. (Marc Topkin on X)
Fantasy Impact:
Cheng was signed by the Pirates as an international free agent in 2019. Still only 23, Cheng made his Major League debut with the Pirates last season and went hitless in seven at bats. The speedy infielder is a career .251 hitter in the minors with 35 home runs and 112 stolen bases. Cheng could have a path to some playing time with the Rays as their projected starters at second, short, and third either have little experience or have struggled at the big league level.
