Lineups
Alvin Kamara's recent contract negotiations have sent many a fantasy fan into a state of panic, but it seems like the two sides are very close to a mutually beneficial deal. With the Saints hanging onto a closing Super Bowl window, I have little doubt Kamara will be on the field Week 1. He dealt with some brutal injuries last season and didn't look like the same player, but he should be back to full health and back to b eing a top-5 fantasy back. How many catches is Josh Jacobs going to get? That's been one of the toughest questions for me to answer this offseason. After drafting a handful of receivers and signing Devontae Booker, I'm not sure if Jacobs is set for the true three-down role we all hope he is. One thing is for sure, though - Jacobs would have top-5 running back upside given his talent if he plays more of a three-down role this season.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Kamara and the Saints appear to be heading towards getting a contract extension done, but there are potential injury concerns hanging over Kamara and his season-long outlook. Kamara has already reportedly had an epidural to help with some ailments and that's extremely concerning. If you're still drafting this week, based on the information we have available to us, I'm moving Kamara down a couple of spots on my draft board. Kamara lands at RB6 right now with Dalvin Cook and Joe Mixon ahead of him in Half PPR format.Jacobs is a fantastic selection in Standard formats due to the fact that he's likely going to see 270 carries in 2020. Unfortunately, he does lose a little bit of value in PPR formats with the lack of targets going his direction, but he's still likely to finish in the top-12 due to the sheer volume of carries.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Jacobs had an excellent rookie season, despite missing three games with injury. He flashed explosiveness and the ability to continue to gain yards after contact. To the extent there was a downside, it's that he barely factored in as a receiver (just 27 targets). Although he's expressed a desire to be far more involved in the passing game, the presence of pass-catching running backs, including Jalen Richard, makes that less likely, though the recent trade of Lynn Bowden Jr. helps Jacobs' cause in that regard. Regardless of any increased work in the passing game, Jacob should have a workhorse role and be drafted as a borderline RB1.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
The chess piece of the Saints' passing game, Kamara gets the ball on a variety of routes coming out of the backfield. He figures to receive a similar workload as last season with Latavius Murray expected to get in the neighborhood of 10 touches per game in 2020.Jacobs seems to have the skills to be a three-down back in Vegas, but he was targeted only 27 times as a rookie. With the Raiders having re-signed Jalen Richard to a two-year deal in February, Jacobs' role in the passing game will likely be limited in 2020.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Alvin Kamara had an absolute shocker in 2019. Despite no change in his rushing and receiving opportunities, Kamara dropped five points a game. There are myriad reasons for this massive change but most of them suggest a rebound is on the cards. Kamara battled knee and ankle injuries throughout last season and these really lowered his usually incredible efficiency and effectiveness. His TD numbers dropped by nearly a TD a game as well, which played a significant part in his drop in points. These should mostly regress, but it is worth noting his red zone looks halved last year and that will have an impact if things. Ultimately he's a great rebound candidate but he does come with some very real risk, especially given his recent holdout news. He's a very risky but high-upside pick in the first round. The Josh Jacobs hype is totally out of control. Currently the half-PPR RB7, he's going stupidly high in early 2020 drafts. We're talking about a guy who caught 20 balls in his rookie season in a team that just brought in two pass-catching RBs to join the locked-in Jalen Richard. Now the team has brought in two wide receivers and Jason Witten in a clear commitment to the passing game. That a bad sign for a guy who will need to add touches and maintain his high efficiency to even match his draft position. It's time to chill out and wait a little longer for Josh Jacobs.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There's just one running back who's had a higher "boom" percentage (25-plus PPR points) than Kamara over the course of their careers, and that's Christian McCaffrey. Kamara has now topped 25 PPR points in 14 of his 45 career games, which is quite ridiculous. His 2019 season was easily his worst to date, though he still finished as the RB12 despite missing two games. The Saints offense continues to groove, and though Drew Brees is still playing great football, his arm strength is declining, which could lead to more targets than every for Kamara, who's averaged 6.7 targets per game over the first three years in a Saints uniform. Provided he doesn't get hurt, Kamara is a near-lock to finish as a top-six running back. We've continually heard that Jacobs is going to be more heavily involved in the passing game, though that never materialized last year, seeing just 27 targets in 13 games played. Then we heard, "we're going to involve him more in 2020." They then re-signed Jalen Richard, added Henry Ruggs, and Lynn Bowden. It's not looking likely that Jacobs sees the 50-plus targets he deserves, which lowers him down the rankings. The overall offense should improve, giving him more scoring opportunities, but relying on touchdowns is a tricky thing. He's best-suited as a high-end RB2 who has RB1 upside if they follow through on the promise to use him more in the passing game.
Rob Wilson
The Fantasy Footballers
Kamara cited an injury in 2019, his touchdown totals should increase and he's the focal point of one of the best offenses in football.Gruden has flirted with increasing his pass catching volume. Safe pick in the RB2 range
Frank Bonincontri
Fantasy Wire HQ
The addition of Emmanuel Sanders provides a bit more balance for the offense and will keep defenses honest. Kamara will not have to shoulder the workloadIf only Gruden would commit to getting him passing targets and not just provide lip service about it...
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Kamara was pretty disappointing in 2019, considering he was a Top-3 fantasy pick. He finished the year with 1,330 yards from scrimmage, but just 6 touchdowns. I think he is likely to rebound in 2020 and he should have RB1 value.Jacobs had a very good rookie season with 1,316 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns. Jacobs should be a low-end RB1, especially if he sees a bigger role in the passing game.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Alvin Kamara apparently tore up his knee week 5 of 2019 which likely had a lot to do with "down" year. In this "down" year, he still ended as RB12. Now that he is healthy, he has as high of a ceiling as anyone.
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
Coming off an RB9 season, but didn't play at full health. Elite pass-catcher out of the backfield in one of the most friendly fantasy RB situations out there. Expecting a bounce back to his elite PPR scoring.Great rusher with limited receiving upside. Raiders used him in a two down role and offseason moves dictate he's not getting a massive increase in his passing role. Elite ceiling is limited due to that, but has a strong floor.

Top 4 RB in each of 1st 2 NFL seasons before health and loss of QB Brees for 5 games helped sink him to RB No. 9 in '19 - give him a mulliganNo. 13 RB in FAN PPG as rookie despite playing half his games with a shoulder fracture - an elite talent that should see a sizable bump in the passing game

Kamara seems like one of the safest players in fantasy as long as he's on the field. Three consecutive years recording 81 receptions is incredible and Drew Brees is going to continue to target him constantly. My only fears are injury-related. If Kamara plays 16 games in 2020 he will easily finish as a top-5 back.Jacobs is coming off of a stellar rookies season and will now play in an offense that features some of the most explosive players in the league. The addition of Henry Ruggs should force defenses to play them deep giving Jacobs plenty of rushing lanes to run through.

Alvin Kamara scored 106 less PPR points in 2019 than 2018. 84 of them were due to him only finding the endzone 6 times instead of 18 in 2018. -1,592 yards in from scrimmage in 2018 and 1,330 in 2019 -Caught the same amount of passes at 81 -Only had 2 TDs heading into Week 16Three of their first four games are against top-5 run defenses

Despite going from 18 TDs to 6 TDs, Kamara still finished as the RB9 in FP/g in half PPR and the RB8 in FP/g in PPR while playing through injuries. If you give him the same amount of TDs he got in his rookie year (13), he would've gotten 42 (7x6) more fantasy points which would've put his half PPR total at 250 fpts, good for RB7 in half PPR and RB5 in PPR. Kamara with those totals would've averaged 17.9 fpts (250/14) and 21.4 fpts (300/14). Those totals would've been good for RB5 (0.5PPR) and RB2 (PPR). I expect Kamara to have closer to 13 TDs rather than 6 TDs, so use your first round pick on him confidently.

He's really been the same, consistent player since entering the league. 725-900 yards on the ground. 81 receptions EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR. The ups and downs have been based on health, TDs, and how productive he can be through the passing game.IF Coach Gruden gets Jacobs more involved in the pass game, Jacobs will be a threat for top 5. Ricard and Washington combined for 84 targets, while each playing less than 30% of the snaps. Ricard has been resigned. Washington and his 41 targets are an UFA.
