Lineups
CMC may be due for slight statistical regression and the new coaching staff may look to lessen his workload, but McCaffrey had over 100 more half-PPR fantasy points than the next-best running back last season. He's the locked-and-loaded first overall pick. After CMC goes off the board, it's tough to differentiate between Ezekiel Elliott and Saquon Barkley. I give Zeke the slight edge since he's playing in what I project as a top-5 scoring offense with tremendous blocking in front of him. Zeke is a workhorse and should come close to leading the league in total carries.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
After struggling in the run game as a rookie in 2017, McCaffrey improved his per-carry average by more than a yard over the past couple of seasons. He has also led all NFL running backs in both receptions and receiving yards each of the past two seasons. The definition of a workhorse, Elliott leads all NFL running backs with 736 touches over the past two seasons. He also led the league in red-zone carries and rushing yards in 2019, with 59 attempts for 162 yards inside the 20-yard line.
Elisha Twerski
numberFire
On average, the last 14 running backs to finish as the RB1 in half-PPR leagues have scored 102.3 fewer points the following season. CMC had 403 touches last year. Prior to that, there had been 26 instances of a back totaling at least 400 touches since 1995. On average, those running backs totaled 115.6 fewer touches, nearly a half-yard less per touch, 721 fewer total yards, and 6.7 fewer scores in the following season. Obviously, trends can be (and have been) broken, but it is something to think about as you dish out the most valuable commodity in fantasy.
David Zach
FantasyPros
Reigning RB1, new QB, new coaches, additional WRsHigh powered offense, increased receiving role
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Christian McCaffrey was spectacular in 2019. With over 1000 yards rushing and receiving along with 100+ receptions and 19 total TDs combined for a historic season. CMC may not reach the same heights in 2020, but he's still the clear number one overall pick in most formats. There is some risk with McCaffrey in the form of workload-induced injury, his team's awful defense and overall regression. These are legitimate fears but they're far from unique to the Panthers RB and there's no way you should be taking anyone but this guy No. 1 overall.Big things have been expected of the Eagles since their Super Bowl success and they continue to disappoint. Injuries and a lack of quality have specifically hurt Jake Elliott, as he's a strong and consistent kicker who will take the opportunity if it's given to him.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
You can try to make the argument that McCaffrey shouldn't go No. 1 overall this year, but you'd lose the argument. Outside of saying, "running backs don't repeat as the top option," there's nothing that should suggest McCaffrey won't. He's not just a running back. He's a wide receiver. He scored 182.5 half-PPR points through the air alone, which would've been the No. 20 wide receiver in fantasy last year, ahead of Stefon Diggs. Even if McCaffrey simply stopped playing football in Week 12, he would've finished as the No. 1 running back by a massive 22.1 PPR points. The new offense and improved quarterback play shouldn't hurt at all. There's only one running back over the last five years who's finished top-six three times, and that's Elliott. Oddly enough, he's never finished as No. 1 though. The Cowboys passing offense just got better with the addition of CeeDee Lamb, and while that may put a cap on Elliott's targets in the passing game, he should be free to rock against seven-man fronts. He saw eight-plus defenders in the box 19.3 percent of the time last year, a number that may dip down into the single digits, provided the Cowboys go three-wide more often than not. Stop trying to find "the next big thing," because Elliott has proven time and time again that he's among the safest picks at the top of the draft. He's posted RB2 or better numbers in 92.9 percent of his career games, which is better than any running back I've ever charted. In fact, the closest is Le'Veon Bell, who's hit that mark 87.0 percent of the time.
Rob Wilson
The Fantasy Footballers
The man, the myth, the fantasy legend. Bonafide RB1 and the closest thing to a can't miss fantasy pick since LT.The last true workhorse on this list. Passing volume may dip in 2020, but his TD totals are due for positive regression
Frank Bonincontri
Fantasy Wire HQ
1.01 - Really hoping Teddy B does not curtail his game.Hoping Zeke stays Zeke under new head coach (and pass happy) Mike McCarthy. I believe he will..
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
No brainer first pick. Ceiling of overall RB1 and floor of overall RB2.Throughout his career, Zeke has averaged 96 rushing yards and 28 receiving yards per game. He also has 48 TDs in 56 games. Consistently great.
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
Coming off one of the best fantasy seasons of all-time. New system in place puts into question how likely he is to get close to that number last year. Elite RB. 1.01.Elite RB who's in potentially the top offense in the league. Pollard's emergence may limit Zeke's total touches and adding Lamb may hurt Zeke's reception ceiling. Regardless still a top player in a fantastic situation.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Was just 3rd RB in past decade to reach 400 touches, helping propel him to 2nd-best PPR season by RB in NFL historyPerhaps nobody has a higher fantasy floor than EZE, who has the most games of 10+ FAN PTS since 2016 (53, out of a total of 56 games played)
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Plain and simple, Christian McCaffrey is the best player in fantasy football. He's an elite runner of the football and yet his pass-catching skills are what's most impressive. Two consecutive seasons with over 100 receptions, that's unheard of at the RB position. He's the clear cut #1 overall pick in all formats.Elliott had another stellar season last year and is in position to do it once again in 2020. The Cowboys offense has only gotten better this offseason with the addition of CeeDee Lamb. I don't expect the coaching change to affect Elliott's workload all that much making him the safest player in fantasy behind only McCaffrey

The lead Saints RB in games Bridgewater started last season averaged 22 PPR PPG. CMC is going to be fine no matter who is throwing him the ball and will continue to see an unbelievable amount of work. The Panthers' already bad D has lost Luke Keuchly and now Matt Rhule, an offensive-minded coach, is taking over. Rhule's teams struggled his first season with Temple and Baylor, so if that carries over we'll see a lot of CMC garbage-time work.

The 1.01 in pretty much every format. No need to debate.Zeke has finished as a top 5 RB in every season that he's played 15 games or more in both standard and PPR formats. Having never missed extended time due to injury in his career, Zeke is about as safe of a pick that you're going to get in the first round of your draft.

McCaffrey is looking to repeat as the overall PPR RB1 for the first time since 2002-2003 Priest Holmes. McCaffrey had more yards before contact (635) than all but four ENTIRE TEAMS of running backs in 2019. He averaged a robust 2.21 yards before contact, which is something I'd say is unsustainable. @MikeTagliereNFL xxEzekiel Elliott with a coronavirus update: "I would say I had maybe one or two days when I felt symptoms. Even then, it wasn't too bad. I had a cough and a little bit of shortness of breath. Now, I feel good. I feel normal." @jonmachota Zeke is the definition of consistent for fantasy. Last season he was at least an RB2 EVERY SINGLE WEEK. He was an RB1 in 9 of those weeks, with the other 7 weeks being an RB2. @ZtwiceFF

While it might sound absurd to say, there's a legitimate path for CMC to finish with more receptions this year than what he had in 2019. The Panthers are entering a rebuild and their defense saw a lot of key pieces leave for various reasons. They're going to be relying heavily on rookies and this may lead to the offense needing to keep them in games with more passing volume. If that's the case, McCaffrey's likely going to be second in line behind DJ Moore. With all that said, CMC's as easy of a pick as they come at the 1.01.Ezekiel Elliott has finished in the top-5 each of the past two seasons and may be one of the safest RBs to draft. As long as he's healthy, he'll see over 300 touches and that's exactly what you want from a top-5 redraft pick. You can draft Zeke with confidence yet again this season.

Joe Brady is arguably the most intriguing OC Hire of the offseason. While another 402 touches is unlikely, the quality of these looks could skyrocket if Brady is as real as he seemsMike McCarthy is definitely pass-happy AF... but, dating back to his Saints days, his offenses have been featured-back centric more often than not (10/18). Zeke should still eat, especially with another explosive weapon added in CeeDee Lamb

Mike McCarthy's RB usage in the pass game his last 3 years in GB: 2018 - 73 targets(12 games), 2017 - 83 targets, 2016 - 88 targets. That was typically with a 3 headed monster. I would assume Zeke is going to demand the large share of targets. He's averaged 83 over his last 2 seasons so potentially no new value here, unless Kellen Moore does something? Mike could get in trouble if he continues running the ball at the pace he did in GB though. 29th, 27th, and 32nd in the league his last 3 years, not gonna jive with a back that's averaged 292 carries a season since entering the league.

McCaffrey would be a RB1 if he didn't catch a single pass, he finished 2019 with 1,387 yards rushing and 15 rushing touchdowns. When you add in 116 receptions for 1,005 yards and 4 more touchdowns, you have the overall number one RB.Elliott had 1,777 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns last year. There is always concern that a new coaching staff could change his usage, but given the size of his contract and OC Kellen Moore being retained to call plays, it seems likely he will have similar RB1 value in 2020.
