Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
2019 looks like a mirage in an otherwise bulletproof profile. He broke out at 20.1 (after posting a 29% Dominator Rating as a true freshman), left school with a 32% DR, and got drafted in Round 2. He was efficient as a rookie (8.7 YPT) in a horrible situation. @JackMiller02After Cam Newton was injured, Panthers WRs saw a catchable deep ball on only 25% of targets (14/56), via PFF. During Teddy Bridgewater's five starts, Saints WRs saw catchable deep balls on 62% of targets (8/13). @pat_thorman
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
One of 16 NFL receivers to average more than 8.3 targets per game in 2019, Kirk's usage will likely dip a bit this season with DeAndre Hopkins coming in as the primary option in Arizona's passing game. Kirk hasn't been particularly durable over his two NFL seasons, missing three games last October with an ankle injury and four games in December 2018 after suffering a foot injury.Samuel failed to surpass five receptions in any game last season, and a 91-yard effort in Week 2 marked the only time he eclipsed 70 receiving yards. With Carolina signing Robby Anderson in March to a two-year, 20 million contract, it's no guarantee that Samuel remains the third option in the Panthers' passing game behind Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Christian Kirk was scheduled for a sophomore breakout and it happened, but only for one week, as he crammed in 138 yards and all three of his 2019 TDs into the week 10 Buccs game. He was otherwise rather inconsistent, with a lot of quiet weeks and no green zone TDs despite 6 targets. It was a strange season which is over-complicated by the Deandre Hopkins trade. I'm not touching him at his 9th round price, not because you won't get enough return for that investment, but because he lacks the upside to make a major seasonal impact.Curtis Samuel was everyone's favorite breakout prospect last season and although he didn't reach the lofty expectations some had for him, a WR36 finish was still solid for a player with a limited skill set. With the addition of Robby Anderson, Samuel's target share is in for a major reduction and the talk he may be on the trade block is an even worse sign. While the Panthers will have to throw a lot, Samuel is at best the 4th receiver in this offense and that limits his upside.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
He has the benefit of playing a year with Kyler Murray in Kliff Kingsbury's offense, while DeAndre Hopkins may go through a learning curve. Despite playing just 13 games last year, Kirk saw 107 targets (132 target pace over 16 games). The issue is that Hopkins will get a large chunk of the pie, and Larry Fitzgerald didn't return to play another season to see just 50 targets. It'll be hard for anyone to correctly predict the target share among these receivers, but Kirk is an ascending talent who's entering year three of his young career. Knowing the Cardinals receivers combined for 368 targets last year, it's hard to see a scenario where Kirk sees more targets than he did last year, especially when you know they run a lot of 4WR sets (which cuts into the overall target pie). Kirk has also scored just three touchdowns in each of his first two seasons, so touchdowns aren't likely to make up for a lower target share. He's likely going to be somewhat of a hit-or-miss WR3/4 in 2020 with inconsistent targets. There are a lot of analysts making excuses for Samuel's poor production last year, stating that his quarterback play was atrocious. While I don't disagree, there are plenty of wide receivers who've had bad quarterback play but managed to be useful. Samuel's 0.96 yards per route run in 2019 ranked dead last among the 157 wide receivers with at least 100 targets over the last five years. Heck, his teammate D.J. Moore was able to finish as the WR18. Based on the targets Samuel received and where they took place, he should have finished as the WR16. Look, I'm not saying Samuel is as bad as he was in 2019, but for him to become a reliable fantasy player, he'd have to overcome the fact that he's now the fourth-best target in the offense, behind McCaffrey, Moore, and Anderson. The Panthers also tried shopping Samuel this offseason, but ultimately held onto him. He's someone to look at during bye weeks when the Panthers are double-digit underdogs. Outside of that, you're just looking for an injury to him to become anything more than a WR5-type option.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
There's no doubt that Christian Kirk has the talent to be a reliable fantasy WR but as of now, he's looking like a WR3 on his own team. With the addition of DeAndre Hopkins and the consistent presence of Larry Fitzgerald, it's hard to imagine Kirk sees a large target share. He's a deep threat so he'll have his big games but you won't want to have to rely on him on a weekly basis.Leading up to the 2019 season, all anyone wanted to talk about was Curtis Samuel and how he would be the WR to own in Carolina. Well, that didn't exactly work out. It was D.J. Moore who stole the spotlight and now the Panthers went out and signed deep threat Robby Anderson. I like Samuel as a talent but I don't think there will be enough targets to go around to make him a reliable weekly starter.

Kirk's been a fine WR3/FLEX option over the past few seasons, but he appeared to be on the verge of breaking out finally in 2020. However, the addition of Deandre Hopkins quashes that outlook a little bit. Larry Fitzgerald will still be involved in this offense, so Kirk's ceiling is limited. He'll receive his 5 to 6 targets per game, but he's unlikely to be anything more than a WR3 again in 2020.Samuel's got the talent to be a factor for fantasy football, but it simply hasn't translated to on-the-field production. Now, Samuel has competition for targets with Robby Anderson in town and there's a chance that Samuel is fourth on this team in targets. With that being the case, Samuel's unlikely to return consistent fantasy production this season.

His per game pace of 8.3 targets a game would've tied him for 12th in targets at the position in 2019. Can absolutely be a fantasy value if the offense takes a step forward, he stays healthy, and no one else is brought in..That's a lot of stipulations.. Team was middle of the pack in attempts last year. The team did lead the league in targets to WR in 2019, and didn't address TE in a way that makes me think that's going to change. He should be the numbers 2 target behind Hopkins in an offense that's looking to take a step forward in Redzone efficiency. If I told you this WR had 108/1236/11 would you be interested? Now what if I told you that was in 3 years? Has trended upwards for 3 years in a row. Deep targets were infamously inaccurate last year. That made him rather terrible for fantasy football. He was miscast, running a 9 route over 1/4 of the time That situation has now been rectified with the addition of Robby Anderson. I think Samuel's chances at fading into a WR3 forever are just as likely as some kind of breakout. Most players don't have a Devante Parker like resurgence after years of being mediocre. They turn into Phillip Dorsett, an 83rd percentile sparq-x athlete who had greater college production and breakout age than Samuel, while also being a 4.3 guy we just can't let go of. However, I went back to watch all his deep incomplete passes myself for 2019. The majority were inaccurate. Sometimes the QB had to release the ball early because of the rush. Others, Samuel was out positioned, or not big enough to go up and get it. He also some just flat drops, but all of those happening were in the minority of what was happening on his deep looks. Fighting for targets underneath with DJ Moore will be no easier than trying to catch deep passes from Kyle Allen, but he'll at least have more accurate balls coming from Teddy Bridgewater, while having great, to elite numbers against man coverage 2 years in a row to give himself a great opportunity in this new offense.

Target share will take a dramatic hit, but the quality of usage could skyrocket if Hopkins is drawing huge attention.Joe Brady preaches speed and getting it in space... and Curtis Samuel might just be the perfect man for the job. Back aboard the hype train, even with Robby A added.
