Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Samuel's coming over from Carolina to reunite with his former head coach, Ron Rivera. While Samuel put together a very solid season last year in Carolina, we should be pumping the brakes on him in this Scott Turner offense. When Samuel was in this offense previously, he was used primarily as an intermediate-to-deep threat and had a relatively high ADOT. Last season, Samuel was used closer to the line of scrimmage and this is where he saw his production really take a jump. Samuel's a fine low-end WR3 this upcoming season that should have some big performances throughout the year, but we need to remain cautious with our expectations for the talented wideout.Smith's coming off of one of - if not the most - productive seasons for a CFB WR ever. There's absolutely no denying his talent and how he produced against SEC corners, which projects well for his transition to the NFL. All signs point to Smith being a value this upcoming draft season except for the state of the offense. For Smith to return value, Hurts needs to take a massive step forward as a passer from what we saw last season. In an offense that doesn't project to pass the ball a ridiculous amount, Smith is going to have to be incredibly efficient to crack the top-30 at the WR position this year. It's certainly possible due to his talent level, but his current ADP is appropriate, in my opinion. As a FLEX option, you're able to live with the potential range of outcomes.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It was good to see Samuel finally have his breakout season in year four, though it's worth noting that his numbers have improved every year. The issue, however, is that he's being reunited with offensive coordinator Scott Turner, who couldn't get the most out of Samuel during the 2019 season. While Samuel saw a career-high 106 targets that year, he averaged a minuscule 5.9 yards per target while used in an incorrect role. Will that change? It's tough to say, but Terry McLaurin, J.D. McKissic, Antonio Gibson, and Logan Thomas are all competition for targets with his new team. Samuel should have plenty of manufactured touches, but don't automatically assume he's as valuable as he was in 2020.If you're looking for the clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver for his team who's not being drafted like it, Smith is your guy. The Eagles were severely lacking wide receiver talent last year, and it led to them trading up to take Smith to solidify their go-to receiver for Jalen Hurts. Smith was the most pro-ready receiver in the draft, though some are concerned with his lack of weight. Even though every college knew he was getting the ball, they couldn't stop him, and it's not like Alabama plays weak opponents. He dominated everyone he came across. As someone who should get a consistent six-plus targets per game, Smith should be a WR3, even in his rookie season.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
I'm not breaking any news when I say that Smith is incredibly talented but there are concerns about his size. The concerns are warranted - Smith's frame is nearly unprecedented, and even everyone's favorite comp for him - Marvin Harrison - was a good 10 pounds heavier. But if you let injury concerns scare you off a late-round receiver with Smith's upside in a redraft league, then you're just playing fantasy wrong. Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, and potentially Zach Ertz are gone in this offense, and Nick Sirianni has had an entire offseason to figure out how best to get Smith involved. Jalen Hurts's rushing ability will likely put a cap on his pass attempts and, with it, Smith's targets. But given his price, this is a situation in which you should take the gamble on an immensely talented wide receiver with little competition for targets.
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
DeVonta Smith's 73.9 ADP would slot him third among rookies since 2015 behind Amari Cooper and ahead of Nelson Agholor (78.8).
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
The only concern with DeVonta is can he stay healthy? He's undersized, but this kid wants to be great. He has the chops to do it. The former Heisman winner dominated college football in 2020. He's a big play waiting to happen and he should get plenty of opportunities- (translation a lot of catches in half point and full point PPR formats.) He should make an immediate impact. My comp is former Michigan Wolverines and Minnesota Vikings star WR Anthony Carter. Google him. He was really good. DeVonta Smith will be just as good if not better.
Joe Pisapia
FantasyPros
Joe Brady figured out how to get the best out of Curtis Samuel, and Samuel turned that performance into a free agent deal with the Washington Football Team. Ryan Fitzpatrick will have to build report with his new receivers, but one would consider Samuel's '20 numbers as a good base line expectation with potential for more. But, it would be wise to draft him on the baseline, bot the upside.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Great fit in WASH where deep speed could finally be capitalized upon w/ Fitz, in an offense he's familiar with. I like Joe Brady's scheme and his volume last year (2nd most touches among WRs!!!) more, but the QB upgrade should balance that out
