Lineups
Dalvin Cook is yet another running back who has been working on an extension this offseason. While the star back hasn't reached an agreement with the Vikings yet, I expect him to be on the field in Week 1 as he's maintained will be the case. The offense could look a little different without Stefon Diggs and Kevin Stefanski, but Mike Zimmer is a smart coach and he knows the team's best chance to win is by running early and often.Alvin Kamara's recent contract negotiations have sent many a fantasy fan into a state of panic, but it seems like the two sides are very close to a mutually beneficial deal. With the Saints hanging onto a closing Super Bowl window, I have little doubt Kamara will be on the field Week 1. He dealt with some brutal injuries last season and didn't look like the same player, but he should be back to full health and back to b eing a top-5 fantasy back.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Dalvin Cook is the centerpiece of his offense, which is something that very few players in the NFL get to claim. At the time of writing, we're seeing him threaten to holdout if he doesn't get the contract extension he's looking for from the Minnesota Vikings. While Cook has the leverage in terms of his involvement in the offense, he still has yet to play a full 16-game season. This holdout may extend into the regular season and that's worrisome for fantasy owners. We'll have to take a wait-and-see approach right now, but he's a solid first-round pick if he does end his holdout.Kamara and the Saints appear to be heading towards getting a contract extension done, but there are potential injury concerns hanging over Kamara and his season-long outlook. Kamara has already reportedly had an epidural to help with some ailments and that's extremely concerning. If you're still drafting this week, based on the information we have available to us, I'm moving Kamara down a couple of spots on my draft board. Kamara lands at RB6 right now with Dalvin Cook and Joe Mixon ahead of him in Half PPR format.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Although Cook returned for the 2018 season opener after tearing his ACL the previous October, he didn't look fully healthy while averaging 2.7 yards per carry over three September games. He finished '18 strong, then posted the best numbers of his career in 2019.The chess piece of the Saints' passing game, Kamara gets the ball on a variety of routes coming out of the backfield. He figures to receive a similar workload as last season with Latavius Murray expected to get in the neighborhood of 10 touches per game in 2020.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Dalvin Cook has massive league winning upside! (If he can say healthy.) That's the argument I'm hearing a lot of and it always comes with that little caveat in brackets, whispered in the hope you won't notice. Sadly with Cook it's hard not to notice him breaking down towards the end of every season and surely the Vikings must be as well. When you add in the awkward contract situation and things look very iffy when it comes to taking the Viking in the first five picks. That brings me to a major problem, Alexander Mattison. Mattison isn't a special back but he's shown he can do the job absolutely fine and that means a smart coach will use him to spell Cook a lot more. That's not what you want as the Cook owner as it really caps his upside. Feel free to take Cook somewhere in the Top 5 this draft season but know you're risking your season on a very shaky foundation.Alvin Kamara had an absolute shocker in 2019. Despite no change in his rushing and receiving opportunities, Kamara dropped five points a game. There are myriad reasons for this massive change but most of them suggest a rebound is on the cards. Kamara battled knee and ankle injuries throughout last season and these really lowered his usually incredible efficiency and effectiveness. His TD numbers dropped by nearly a TD a game as well, which played a significant part in his drop in points. These should mostly regress, but it is worth noting his red zone looks halved last year and that will have an impact if things. Ultimately he's a great rebound candidate but he does come with some very real risk, especially given his recent holdout news. He's a very risky but high-upside pick in the first round.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It turns out Gary Kubiak is very good for a run-game. Cook took his game to another level in 2019, finishing as the No. 5 running back despite missing two games. Not only did he total 18-plus carries in eight games, but he also ranked third in yards per route run among running backs. With Stefon Diggs gone, we could see him highlighted even more in the passing game, though Justin Jefferson will eat some of them. Cook also led the league with 21 carries inside the five-yard-line. Health has always been a question mark with Cook, but when healthy, he's easily a top-10 back. There's just one running back who's had a higher "boom" percentage (25-plus PPR points) than Kamara over the course of their careers, and that's Christian McCaffrey. Kamara has now topped 25 PPR points in 14 of his 45 career games, which is quite ridiculous. His 2019 season was easily his worst to date, though he still finished as the RB12 despite missing two games. The Saints offense continues to groove, and though Drew Brees is still playing great football, his arm strength is declining, which could lead to more targets than every for Kamara, who's averaged 6.7 targets per game over the first three years in a Saints uniform. Provided he doesn't get hurt, Kamara is a near-lock to finish as a top-six running back.

Contract discussion will be an offseason issue. If he stays healthy, Cook should have no issue finishing as a top three back in that Minnesota rushing attack.Kamara cited an injury in 2019, his touchdown totals should increase and he's the focal point of one of the best offenses in football.

*Prays "Please stay healthy, please don't holdout"The addition of Emmanuel Sanders provides a bit more balance for the offense and will keep defenses honest. Kamara will not have to shoulder the workload

Alvin Kamara apparently tore up his knee week 5 of 2019 which likely had a lot to do with "down" year. In this "down" year, he still ended as RB12. Now that he is healthy, he has as high of a ceiling as anyone.

Was the RB2 in PPG last year. Stefanski moves on, but still plenty of opportunity for him to thrive in the passing game again with Diggs gone. Elite RBComing off an RB9 season, but didn't play at full health. Elite pass-catcher out of the backfield in one of the most friendly fantasy RB situations out there. Expecting a bounce back to his elite PPR scoring.

Initial holdout threat seems to have lost some teeth and I'm sensing that he won't sit out - likely to move to No. 5 among my RBs when that feels more like a lockTop 4 RB in each of 1st 2 NFL seasons before health and loss of QB Brees for 5 games helped sink him to RB No. 9 in '19 - give him a mulligan

Packer Report
With Cook seemingly ready to report to the Vikings and play in 2020, his value remains as a sure-fire RB1. The reason I don't have him in my top-5 is because of his injury history and the emergence of Alexander Mattison as a legitimate change of pace back. Target Cook at the turn.Kamara seems like one of the safest players in fantasy as long as he's on the field. Three consecutive years recording 81 receptions is incredible and Drew Brees is going to continue to target him constantly. My only fears are injury-related. If Kamara plays 16 games in 2020 he will easily finish as a top-5 back.

Cook caused some waves early in the offseason with discussions of a potential holdout, but the new CBA essentially makes holding out a no-win situation for a player, and Cook reported when camp opened. There's no doubting Cook's value when healthy. Gary Kubiak will likely continue to employ the run-blocking scheme that fit Cook so well last year, and Cook is one of perhaps five players or so who has a legitimate chance to finish as the No. 1 running back in fantasy. The key, of course, is the "when healthy" part, as Cook has played in just 29 of 48 games in his young career. And, despite the futility of a holdout, Cook's unhappiness with his contract could potentially lead him to protect himself more than he otherwise would with minor injuries. But all of that is just window dressing given Cook's talent. His nearly limitless ceiling dictates that he be taken as a top-5 or 6 back, though drafters would be wise to lock up Alexander Mattison in the later rounds.

At the time of writing, Cook is without a new contract and has said he will hold out without a new deal. People who drafted Le'Veon Bell a couple of years back during his season-long holdout will certainly have their doubts about drafting Cook with their first-round pick. While this is definitely something to monitor, Mattison's consensus ADP is currently #112 in half PPR redraft leagues, so handcuffing Cook with your 8-9th round pick is definitely feasible.Despite going from 18 TDs to 6 TDs, Kamara still finished as the RB9 in FP/g in half PPR and the RB8 in FP/g in PPR while playing through injuries. If you give him the same amount of TDs he got in his rookie year (13), he would've gotten 42 (7x6) more fantasy points which would've put his half PPR total at 250 fpts, good for RB7 in half PPR and RB5 in PPR. Kamara with those totals would've averaged 17.9 fpts (250/14) and 21.4 fpts (300/14). Those totals would've been good for RB5 (0.5PPR) and RB2 (PPR). I expect Kamara to have closer to 13 TDs rather than 6 TDs, so use your first round pick on him confidently.

Cook had a breakout season with 1,654 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns in 2019. Cook should be a perfect fit for Gary Kubiak's running back friendly offense and he should be an elite RB1 again in 2020.Kamara was pretty disappointing in 2019, considering he was a Top-3 fantasy pick. He finished the year with 1,330 yards from scrimmage, but just 6 touchdowns. I think he is likely to rebound in 2020 and he should have RB1 value.

"The things I do coming out of the backfield, the things I do in between the tackles, I block, I pretty much do it all," Cook said. "I don't have to come off the field. I think some guys just don't do as much as I do, and I think that's why I'm today's (top) back." Cook solidified himself as an elite option at the position last season, but his injury history remains lengthy and concerning. -Pioneer Press Cook has slipped a couple of spots due to him threatening a holdout. As soon as he signs something he's the RB4, but I'd hesitate drafting him until he signs something.Alvin Kamara scored 106 less PPR points in 2019 than 2018. 84 of them were due to him only finding the endzone 6 times instead of 18 in 2018. -1,592 yards in from scrimmage in 2018 and 1,330 in 2019 -Caught the same amount of passes at 81 -Only had 2 TDs heading into Week 16

The only way Dalvin could maintain Top-3 value was if Kubiak replaced Stefanski. He did, and the zone blocking remains in place for another blow up.

He's really been the same, consistent player since entering the league. 725-900 yards on the ground. 81 receptions EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR. The ups and downs have been based on health, TDs, and how productive he can be through the passing game.
