FantasyPros
Yes, Derrick Henry finished with 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns last year en route to a No. 3 finish. Yes, he was dominant in the playoffs. We still can't forget that he was the No. 14 running back in points per game before Week 10 last year, behind David Johnson and Mark Ingram. Should we automatically assume Henry picks up where he left off in 2019? My issue with Henry is that he's not involved in the passing-game, which lowers his weekly floor. That alone will allow us to choose someone like Alvin Kamara over him. Henry is best-suited as a second-round pick rather than one in the first round. It turns out Gary Kubiak is very good for a run-game. Cook took his game to another level in 2019, finishing as the No. 5 running back despite missing two games. Not only did he total 18-plus carries in eight games, but he also ranked third in yards per route run among running backs. With Stefon Diggs gone, we could see him highlighted even more in the passing game, though Justin Jefferson will eat some of them. Cook also led the league with 21 carries inside the five-yard-line. Health has always been a question mark with Cook, but when healthy, he's easily a top-10 back.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Henry led the NFL in carries, rushing yards, and touchdowns last season, and continued to smash into the playoffs. With Ryan Tannehill back under center and continuity along the offensive line (other than the swap of Jack Conklin for Isaiah Wilson), there's every reason for Henry to have a big year. He'll never factor in heavily in the passing game so has more value in standard rather than half- or full-PPR formats. But he's a strong RB1 with little risk regardless.Cook caused some waves early in the offseason with discussions of a potential holdout, but the new CBA essentially makes holding out a no-win situation for a player, and Cook reported when camp opened. There's no doubting Cook's value when healthy. Gary Kubiak will likely continue to employ the run-blocking scheme that fit Cook so well last year, and Cook is one of perhaps five players or so who has a legitimate chance to finish as the No. 1 running back in fantasy. The key, of course, is the "when healthy" part, as Cook has played in just 29 of 48 games in his young career. And, despite the futility of a holdout, Cook's unhappiness with his contract could potentially lead him to protect himself more than he otherwise would with minor injuries. But all of that is just window dressing given Cook's talent. His nearly limitless ceiling dictates that he be taken as a top-5 or 6 back, though drafters would be wise to lock up Alexander Mattison in the later rounds.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
75+ rush yards in 18 of past 22 games (playoffs inc.) - led NFL in Yards Created (yards gain after 1st evaded tackle) and Yards After Contact/Attempt in 2019Initial holdout threat seems to have lost some teeth and I'm sensing that he won't sit out - likely to move to No. 5 among my RBs when that feels more like a lock
Elliot Berkovits
Pack to the Future
Henry's breakout 2019 performance caught me by surprise. He was someone I was avoiding and fast forward to this year, he's an automatic RB1. His lack of usage in the passing game still concerns me but if he's running it the way he did in 2019, it won't matter all that much. He deserves to be drafted inside the top 5.With Cook seemingly ready to report to the Vikings and play in 2020, his value remains as a sure-fire RB1. The reason I don't have him in my top-5 is because of his injury history and the emergence of Alexander Mattison as a legitimate change of pace back. Target Cook at the turn.
Justin Dodds
Locked In Football
Henry is potentially the third safest pick in the first round behind CMC and Zeke due to his expected volume. With Dion Jones' departure, 54 carries and 32 targets need to go somewhere. The only options I see are for those targets to either go to rookie Darrynton Evans, depending on how he performs in training camp, or for Henry to absorb them. I expect the Titans to involve Evans, so you're looking at around 300-320 carries and 20-30 targets for Henry, which is very promising volume in Half-PPR or Standard scoring formats. In PPR, the lack of targets lower Henry's floor somewhat, however, league leading rushing attempts should makeup for the lack of targets as they did last year.At the time of writing, Cook is without a new contract and has said he will hold out without a new deal. People who drafted Le'Veon Bell a couple of years back during his season-long holdout will certainly have their doubts about drafting Cook with their first-round pick. While this is definitely something to monitor, Mattison's consensus ADP is currently #112 in half PPR redraft leagues, so handcuffing Cook with your 8-9th round pick is definitely feasible.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Henry led the league in rushing yards and finished the season with 1,746 yards and 18 total touchdowns on the season. He has a new contract and Ryan Tannehill back under center, which means he should still be a RB1 in 2020.Cook had a breakout season with 1,654 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns in 2019. Cook should be a perfect fit for Gary Kubiak's running back friendly offense and he should be an elite RB1 again in 2020.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
2019 was when it finally all came together for Derrick Henry, as he parlayed 303 carries into the rushing title and a RB3 finish in half-ppr. The reaction has been unusual, with a surprising amount of fantasy owners taking a big step back with players like Josh Jacobs, Nick Chubb, Austin Ekeler, Miles Sanders, Kenyan Drake and even Clyde Edwards-Helaire regularly going ahead of Henry for no good reason. Henry remains an absolute stud, especially in non-PPR, with a clear path to another 300 touches and maybe even more receptions. The injury concern appears to be overblown, as Henry has little injury history and all running backs with high volume are a breakdown risk. Ultimately, I'm hopping on the Henry express expecting another big season in 2020.Dalvin Cook has massive league winning upside! (If he can say healthy.) That's the argument I'm hearing a lot of and it always comes with that little caveat in brackets, whispered in the hope you won't notice. Sadly with Cook it's hard not to notice him breaking down towards the end of every season and surely the Vikings must be as well. When you add in the awkward contract situation and things look very iffy when it comes to taking the Viking in the first five picks. That brings me to a major problem, Alexander Mattison. Mattison isn't a special back but he's shown he can do the job absolutely fine and that means a smart coach will use him to spell Cook a lot more. That's not what you want as the Cook owner as it really caps his upside. Feel free to take Cook somewhere in the Top 5 this draft season but know you're risking your season on a very shaky foundation.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Derrick Henry was a fantasy football superstar last year and finished the season with 16 rushing touchdowns! While that's unlikely to repeat, he still belongs in the top-tier RB conversation and is a solid pick towards the back end of the first round in your draft.Dalvin Cook is the centerpiece of his offense, which is something that very few players in the NFL get to claim. At the time of writing, we're seeing him threaten to holdout if he doesn't get the contract extension he's looking for from the Minnesota Vikings. While Cook has the leverage in terms of his involvement in the offense, he still has yet to play a full 16-game season. This holdout may extend into the regular season and that's worrisome for fantasy owners. We'll have to take a wait-and-see approach right now, but he's a solid first-round pick if he does end his holdout.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Underrated aspect of Henry's blistering 8-game stretch (203/1273/11 rushing): not only is it the 2nd-most rushing yards in an 8-game stretch in history, but it comes against teams a combined 24 games above .500. @AdamHarstad"The things I do coming out of the backfield, the things I do in between the tackles, I block, I pretty much do it all," Cook said. "I don't have to come off the field. I think some guys just don't do as much as I do, and I think that's why I'm today's (top) back." Cook solidified himself as an elite option at the position last season, but his injury history remains lengthy and concerning. -Pioneer Press Cook has slipped a couple of spots due to him threatening a holdout. As soon as he signs something he's the RB4, but I'd hesitate drafting him until he signs something.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
3 drops on 23 targets. 2019 was his worst year of passpro according to PFF. Relying on TDs and elite production, strictly from the ground, needing a great oline, requires some big truss.
