Derek Brown FantasyPros | In Weeks 1-11, before suffering an AC joint sprain that kiboshed his season, D'Andre Swift was a fantasy monster. He was the RB7, averaging 19 touches and 97.5 total yards per game. While the Lions have added more passing game weapons in the offseason with D.J. Chark and Jameson Williams, Swift's efficiency through the air allows for hope that his target share (18.4%, second among running backs) won't see a drastic dip. In Weeks 1-11, he was ninth in yards per route run (minimum 15 targets, per PFF) among running backs.
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | D'Andre Swift was RB9 in points per game (half-point scoring) in 10 games played before his injury. He led all running backs in receptions (53) and averaged nearly 19 touches per game. That would have ranked 9th-best last season. | Running back Melvin Gordon signed a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos, ultimately halting the Javonte Williams 2022 breakout season. The idea of Williams playing a three-down role was salivating, but Gordon's return should not be overlooked after a seriously underrated 2021 campaign. MG3's return definitely hurts Williams' top-tier fantasy ceiling. He's going to split work with another capable back in Gordon which is exactly what new head coach Nathaniel Hackett desires and spoke on at the NFL owners meeting in March. However, keep in mind that Williams finished 13th in touches last season (246, 14.6 per game) and would be the favorite to take another step forward in the passing game - Aaron Jones-esque - after finishing as one of two rookie RBs inside the top-15 in route participation in 2021: Najee Harris (first) and Javonte Williams (13th). Williams falls just out of the fantasy RB1 conversation for me in redraft and best ball, but he's right on the cusp. I don't think he can be ranked worse than RB15 considering that's where he finished as a rookie amid a split workload in a much worse offensive environment. |
Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | The stars were all aligned for Javonte to shine this year until the news came out that Denver had resigned Melvin Gordon. Gordon is a solid RB in his own right, but Williams is on another level. Trying to predict how the workload will be split up is a crap-shoot right now. That said, Williams is one of the few RBs, who, if things break right, has the chance to be a league winner. He could very easily be the top-ranked RB come next summer. The addition of Russell Wilson should inject life into a stagnant Broncos offense. At a minimum, he should score more TDs. He's probably fairly valued right now- but he holds major upside if the coaching staff uses Gordon more sparingly. Keep an eye on this situation as the summer progresses.
Nick Bretwisch Win Daily Sports | A LOT of upside, but this Detroit situation is a hard one to handicap. We'll likely never see a 3-down role for Swift.
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The talent is there, Swift had 1,023 yards from scrimmage and 6 touchdowns in the fantasy season in 2021. The question is durability and whether the Lions can improve one of the worst rosters in the NFL. | Williams showed his upside when he averaged 20.4 fantasy points from Week 12 to Week 14. He should also be the lead back in the offense in 2022, but Melvin Gordon's resigning does limit his workload and makes him a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2. |
Kevin Wheeler The Draft Zone | Swift was on pace for the fourth-most touches in the league prior to his injury, including being the third-most targeted RB (4.8) per game. Swift has a history of minor injuries going back to college, but reports from camp are that he's looking as healthy as ever. "Swift looks to be in great shape. He's engaged. He's been out there all week, involved with everything. He's working more after practice." | It was a nearly even 50/50 split with Gordon last season. I think it's likely that it starts out that way this year, but by the end it's likely to be more 65/35 split. |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 7/19: Being used extensively in the passing-game during OTAs, which is the calling-card for Nathaniel Hackett. Preserves his Top-12 ceiling 5/2: Brutal blow w/ MGIII returning. While Javonte will be the first-man up his ceiling is much more capped (albeit that ceiling is much higher than last year regardless now w/ Russell Wilson arriving)
Nick Spencer Fantasy Six Pack | Top 9 RB last year in ppg. A hyper-talented player who has become a PPR machine.
Brandon Funston The Athletic | Top 10 RB in PPR FPPG over his 2 seasons, and now poised for biggest workload in DET offense with arrows pointing up | 63 Missed Tackles Forced was only 3 behind leader Jonathan Taylor despite 129 fewer carries |
