Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Unfortunately, you can't talk about Tua without addressing his health. After bulking up this off-season and taking lessons on how to fall properly, we are all hoping he's healthy all season. If he is, we have seen what he can do with these weapons. However, there is inherent risk to selecting him this early, pushing him down to my QB-10 this season. | Quietly coming in as the QB-nine last season, Jones deserves more respect from the community. Although he possesses an underrated rushing ability, he will need to pass for more than last year's 15 touchdowns to be a top-10 option. Thankfully, the team bolstered their passing weapons by drafting Jalyn Hyatt, signing Paris Campbell and Darren Waller, as well as bringing back Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepherd. He might not be sexy, but he has a steady shot at repeating his fantasy production of last season. |
Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | If Tua stays healthy all season, I'm twenty spots too low here. Throwing to all-pro WRs like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle is a fantasy goldmine. Unfortunately, I don't think he will stay healthy. Concussions are no joke folks. They're very serious injuries. They ended the careers of Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, and Steve Young. They also diminished the life of Jim McMahon. The problem with concussions is that once you have one, it becomes more likely to have another. And the next one will probably send Tua into early retirement. Honestly, I think he should have retired last year. I have no inside information, just a gut feeling. And my gut says that Tua is trying to survive as long as he can in the NFL. He wants to provide for himself and his family over prioritizing his long-term health. He loves the game, but let's face facts. Few jobs are as lucrative as professional athletes for most folks. If this job paid much less, like in construction, would he have returned? I doubt it. I'm rooting for him, but I fear it's not a matter of if, but when he gets thrown down like a rag doll and knocked out. Avoid | |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 5/5: Devon Achane should offer a new speedy element. With Mike White as backup, Tua's role feels much safer -- just health in his way at this point, proven to be a Top-7 guy when healthy | 5/5: QB9 last year w/ Giants, despite absolutely NO ONE to throw to-- they go and add Darren Waller, Jalin Wyatt, Parris Campbell. Brian Daboll is a genius and has a million new toys to play with. Danny J could go NUTS! |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | Your willingness to draft Tua Tagovailoa in 2023 will likely depend on your tolerance for risk. Tua proved himself as a passer in 2022, leading all quarterbacks in passer rating (105.5), yards per attempt (8.9) and touchdown percentage (6.3%). But Tua has to be considered a concussion risk after a season in which he twice missed games due to brain injuries. He was knocked unconscious against the Bengals in Week 4 and didn't return until Week 7. He was also placed in the concussion protocol after a Week 16 game against the Packers and missed Miami's final two games. Were it not for concussion concerns. Tua would be drafted as a top-10 quarterback as a talented young passer in an explosive Dolphins offense that features two terrific WRs in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. But with the possibility that another concussion could put Tua out of action indefinitely, it seems more sensible to regard Tua as a high-end QB2. | A mistake-prone turnover machine during his first three NFL seasons, Daniel Jones flourished in Year Four under first-year Giants head coach Brian Daboll, finishing QB9 in fantasy scoring. Jones ran for 708 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022. He averaged only 200.3 passing yards per game and threw 15 TD passes in 15 starts, but Jones didn't have much pass-catching talent at his disposal and could increase his passing output now that the Giants have added more weaponry. Jones figures to be a low-end QB1 or high-end QB2 in 2023 fantasy drafts. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The good news for Tagovailoa is that he had 3,548 yards and 25 touchdowns in just 13 games. The bad news is that he had multiple concussions and his health is going to be a major storyline in 2023. Tagovailoa is a boom / bust QB1 that is more of a QB2 due to durability concerns from concussions he sustained in the 2022 season. | It looks like the Giants want to keep Jones in 2023, but will it be on a franchise tag or a long-term deal and will he holdout if he is franchise tagged. Jones was a good QB2 in fantasy this year and he could have upside with a second year in the system and an upgrade at wide receiver. |
Tera Roberts Dynasty Vipers | Assuming he remains with NYG and Saquon. The rushing upside is just so real with Jones. He's a top 10 QB if his weapons improve. |
