Lineups
Mostert finished as just the RB26 in PPR leagues last season, but he was excellent after taking over the starting job as he scored double-digit fantasy points in five of six weeks to end the season. That effort culminated in a monstrous 220-yard, 4-touchdown performance in the playoffs. Mostert is set to begin the season as the starter despite requesting a trade earlier this offseason. He's with the team and ready to roll, but there's plenty of talent behind him including Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon. I'm confident the starting running back for the 49ers this season will have fantasy value, I'm just not confident Mostert will be that guy all year long.I loved the Devin Singletary breakout last season and I believe in the Bills as a dark horse Super Bowl contender this season. However, the drafting of Zack Moss will impact Singletary's workload as Moss is a talented player with three-down potential. This is going to be more of a committee than most expect , and we shouldn't expect this to be a high-octane offense. Singletary will be serviceable but there's guys I'd rather have in his range.
John Hesterman
Dynasty League Football
Reports out of camp have indicated that Singletary is struggling with fumbling issues. While he may open the season as the starter, Zack Moss could gain a leg up if Singletary continues to struggle with protecting the football.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
If you include the 53 carries for 336 yards Mostert tallied over three post-season games, he averaged more than 5.8 rushing yards over 190 attempts last season. Expect him to get a heavier workload in 2020 with Matt Breida having been traded to Miami.A compact, slippery back who effectively picks his way for yardage between the tackles, Singletary showed the ability as a rookie to be surprisingly effective through contact. Reports from training camp suggest that Zack Moss could earn enough playing time to limit Singletary's breakout upside.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
After the way Mostert played in the playoffs, many were looking forward to a 2020 breakout season, and it helps knowing that Matt Breida was traded to the Dolphins. The issue is that they are getting Jerick McKinnon back, still have Tevin Coleman, and Jeff Wilson. The passing game also got a new weapon, which could lead to slightly more pass attempts. Despite being on the roster the past two years under Shanahan, Mostert has received 171 carries in 25 games. It's tough to see that changing drastically. There's a chance, which is why he's in the high-end RB3 conversation, but there's also a chance you can't start him with confidence every week. There were many celebrating the end of the Frank Gore era in Buffalo, but they went out and added one of my favorite backs in the draft, Zack Moss, to use in that Gore role. GM Brandon Beane said, "I think more of the goal line and things like that as we did with Frank last year, you'll see Zack do. I think Devin will do a similar role that he had." This is your reminder that Singletary had just two carries inside the five-yard-line all year, while Josh Allen had five, and Frank Gore had 11. That's a crushing blow to Singletary's value.
Rob Wilson
The Fantasy Footballers
Tough to project who leads this three headed monster, but Mostert should get first crackChance to be an underrated asset due to the Zack Moss hype. Solid RB3 target in the middle rounds
Frank Bonincontri
Fantasy Wire HQ
The Rodney Dangerfield of fantasy running backsThe selection of Zach Moss in the draft signals a commitment to Singletary (again) not getting goalline work for a second season. I love Singletary as a bye week fill in only for fantasy purposes. If he is there in the draft, ehhhhhh we'll see but I would likely scoop a few others over him.
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
Balled out and was wildly efficient last year. Only 200 career touches and averaged less than a reception per game last season. Never garnered a start and is on a team that will ride the hot-hand. Big downside for Mostert at his ADP.Efficient rookie RB who started slowly becoming a workhorse as the season finished last year. We want to be chasing efficiency, but also have to take into account that they drafted Zack Moss who will likely take the goal line work away. Not as much upside here, but should be a serviceable RB.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Trade demands produced desired results of getting paid more money - should now be headed for a Touch/PG boost in lucrative SF backfield in 20204th in Breakaway% (runs of 15+ yards) - Rookie Moss likely to take F. Gore's role but Singletary should push 250 touches while making strides in the pass game
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
After weeks of flip-flopping, the 49ers finally gave Mostert his shot and he never looked back. Now he enters the season as the clear RB1 in a run-heavy offense. That being said, the 49ers do use multiple backs which will make owning Mostert frustrating at times, but overall, I think he outperforms his current ADP.Singletary dealt with Frank Gore and injuries in 2019 and he still managed to score over 11 fantasy points per game. Now he's the clear-cut lead back in an ascending offense. I like Singletary as a low-end RB2/ high-end flex.
Andrew Erickson
Pro Football Focus
moving down amid trade rumors etc.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Mostert should be the lead back in this offense, but it might not lead to top-tier fantasy production. The 49ers like to deploy multiple running backs and Tevin Coleman is still going to be heavily involved. Mostert should be viewed as a RB2 this upcoming season.Singletary will remain in his change-of-pace role with Zack Moss now in town. Singletary should hover around the RB2/RB3 border all season long.

Mostert out-gained Tevin Coleman 772-to-544 on the same number of carries (137) and posted the same receiving yardage (180) on seven fewer catches (21-to-14). --@4for4_JohnDevin Singletary had just 3 rush attempts inside the 10. Frank Gore (18) & Josh Allen (11) combined for 29 rush att inside the 10. Combined this would have ranked 5th in the NFL in 2019. With Zack Moss assuming the 'Frank Gore' role, we probably won't see Singletary's upside in 2020. @TheFantasyPT

After years of two 100+ rushers, in 2019 the 49ers had three guys over 120 carries but it was Mostert who stood out. Mostert "burst onto the scene" (with his fifth team in his fourth season) in 2018 before an unfortunate injury dropped him down the depth chart. His talent drew him back up though and he balled out to end the season last year. Moving forward, Matt Breida is finally gone and while Jeff Wilson will be a frustrating poachers, it's a far more management backfield duo which projects Mostert as its 1A. While he finished the season, playoffs included, with an extraordinary 12 TDs in 9 games, it's far more likely he settles into 80ish all-purpose yards and a possible TD most weeks. That's good for seasonal RB2 value with the occasional week winning explosion. That's nice and all, but there's little seasonal top-end upside so you're likely best off looking elsewhere.Devin Singletary had a truly bizarre 2019, splitting touches 180-179 with plodder Frank Gore, getting only 4 touches inside the 10-yard line and only getting 29 receptions. So while Zack Moss will surely have a more meaningful role than Gore, it's likely Singletary will have more touches in 2020, with 200 a reasonable number. Sadly, while his receptions may slightly increase, as one of the league's smallest backs it's highly unlikely he'll get any of the valuable goal line touches. His only path to true upside is a Moss injury, as 2019 proved even a mediocre performance by his teammate won't lead to Singletary becoming a workhorse. Don't get sucked into the hype, Devin's at best a low-RB2 and that would require improvement on last season.

Between shipping out Breida and trading for Trent Wiliams, Mostert saw some huge Draft Day bumps up in fantasy value. He was THE guy down the stretch, and now faces less competition to remain so. If I knew he was getting 60% of the work, Mostert would be in my Top-24 overall... sadly I don't have that level of faith in Shanny, who loves RBBcs, to do so

Frank Gore out rushed him 166-151. If he returns, I think that number goes Singletary's way. He was far more efficient with his carries. My Only worry is that the team might not let him get over 200 touches often because of his size, but that's not up to me. He paced at just over 200 carries in 12 games but this with getting minimal work in his first 4 games. Was on pace for 262 after the first 4 games played.

Mostert had 952 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns in a season that saw him emerge as the lead back in the RBBC at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. He is not going to be a bell cow back, but the lead back in this RBBC is worth RB2 value.
