Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Smith's coming off of one of - if not the most - productive seasons for a CFB WR ever. There's absolutely no denying his talent and how he produced against SEC corners, which projects well for his transition to the NFL. All signs point to Smith being a value this upcoming draft season except for the state of the offense. For Smith to return value, Hurts needs to take a massive step forward as a passer from what we saw last season. In an offense that doesn't project to pass the ball a ridiculous amount, Smith is going to have to be incredibly efficient to crack the top-30 at the WR position this year. It's certainly possible due to his talent level, but his current ADP is appropriate, in my opinion. As a FLEX option, you're able to live with the potential range of outcomes. For the past couple of seasons, Tyler Boyd has been the definition of consistency. In 2018, he finished as the WR17, meanwhile he was the WR23 in 2019. Additionally, through the first 10 weeks of the 2020 season - when Burrow was healthy - Boyd was the WR18 in all of fantasy football. Once Burrow left the lineup though, Boyd's production fell off a cliff and he was the WR66 from Weeks 11-17. There are certainly reasons to be optimistic that Boyd can get back to performing at a top-tier level, but it all comes down to the difference between AJ Green last season and Ja'Marr Chase entering the lineup. Boyd was performing well because of Green's inefficiencies and inability to make the most out of his targets. Chase should see as much - if not more - work than Green did and he has the ability to capitalize on his opportunity. At that point, once you factor in Tee Higgins too, there's not much left over for Boyd to perform as a top-20 receiver like he was last season. He'll still be very fantasy relevant, but he should play third fiddle to Chase and Higgins in this offense. My Very Early Projection: 81-838-4.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
If you're looking for the clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver for his team who's not being drafted like it, Smith is your guy. The Eagles were severely lacking wide receiver talent last year, and it led to them trading up to take Smith to solidify their go-to receiver for Jalen Hurts. Smith was the most pro-ready receiver in the draft, though some are concerned with his lack of weight. Even though every college knew he was getting the ball, they couldn't stop him, and it's not like Alabama plays weak opponents. He dominated everyone he came across. As someone who should get a consistent six-plus targets per game, Smith should be a WR3, even in his rookie season.Since Zac Taylor took over as the head coach, Boyd has played a big role in the offense, though it diminished a tad last year once we saw Tee Higgins carve out a bigger role. Still, he saw 110 targets and finished as the WR35 in half PPR formats. Onto the next obstacle. Ja'Marr Chase is going to be a real thorn in Boyd's side when it comes to volume, as he'll demand more than A.J. Green received last year. All three of the Bengals receivers saw 100-plus targets last year, so it's not like Boyd is going to simply fade away, but he's lost a ton of his upside as the No. 3 option.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
I'm not breaking any news when I say that Smith is incredibly talented but there are concerns about his size. The concerns are warranted - Smith's frame is nearly unprecedented, and even everyone's favorite comp for him - Marvin Harrison - was a good 10 pounds heavier. But if you let injury concerns scare you off a late-round receiver with Smith's upside in a redraft league, then you're just playing fantasy wrong. Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, and potentially Zach Ertz are gone in this offense, and Nick Sirianni has had an entire offseason to figure out how best to get Smith involved. Jalen Hurts's rushing ability will likely put a cap on his pass attempts and, with it, Smith's targets. But given his price, this is a situation in which you should take the gamble on an immensely talented wide receiver with little competition for targets.
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
DeVonta Smith's 73.9 ADP would slot him third among rookies since 2015 behind Amari Cooper and ahead of Nelson Agholor (78.8).
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
The only concern with DeVonta is can he stay healthy? He's undersized, but this kid wants to be great. He has the chops to do it. The former Heisman winner dominated college football in 2020. He's a big play waiting to happen and he should get plenty of opportunities- (translation a lot of catches in half point and full point PPR formats.) He should make an immediate impact. My comp is former Michigan Wolverines and Minnesota Vikings star WR Anthony Carter. Google him. He was really good. DeVonta Smith will be just as good if not better. This looks like the Rams offense only farther East. They'll run 3 WR sets often. Boyd is probably the third option. He's the slowest out of of him, Higgins, and Chase. With a tough schedule it's hard to see much upside for Boyd in 2021.
