Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | One of the most interesting trades of this offseason in my opinion was the Giants bringing in Waller. Daniel Jones has notoriously had no elite weapons outside of Saquon Barkley, and now he has Waller, along with a plethora of solid WRs. The key to Waller's success will be if he can get a consistent target volume on this team loaded with playmakers from the slot position. If he becomes Jones' top target as the only big body in the middle of the field, he could volume his way into the top five. However, I believe he'll need Jones to pass for more than 15 touchdowns to crack that mark. | Despite passing the ball the seventh most times last season, Trevor Lawrence only passed for the ninth most yards. I say this because Engram's biggest threat this season is the addition of Calvin Ridley. It's true, this offense has a lot of mouths to feed, but all were relevant last season and there is clearly room for the volume to increase. If Lawrence takes another step forward, Engram should once again find himself among the weekly fantasy starters at the position. |
Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Engram seems to have finally found a home. Jacksonville is building something special. They have one of the best young QBs in the game in Trevor Lawrence. Engram is a TE in name only. He's really a WR. The entire team should be more comfortable with the playbook as it's their second year in Doug Pederson's offense. The biggest concern I have is the addition of WR Calvin Ridley. Ridley was very good at Alabama and in Atlanta. He'll take some targets away from Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Engram. Engram's current ADP is TE 8, which is about fair value. | |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | After putting together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020, Darren Waller has missed 14 games due to injury over the last two years. In 2021, a knee injury forced Waller to miss five late-season games. In 2022, a hamstring injury wiped out nearly half of his season. Now with the Giants, Waller could see a lot of targets for a team short on talent and size at the WR position. Waller has been reasonably productive when healthy the last two seasons, but he now has to be considered at least a mild health risk, and the big tight end will turn 31 in September. | Evan Engram had a terrific rookie season for the Giants in 2017, then spent the next four years failing to live up to expectations. He signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars in 2022 and thrived in his new environment, catching 73 passes for 766 yards and four touchdowns. Engram also had 7-93-1 in the Jaguars epic come-from-behind playoff win vs. the Chargers. Back with the Jags after being franchise-tagged, Engram will likely be drafted as a midrange or low-end TE1 this summer. That might be a slight overpay now that the Jaguars have added WR Calvin Ridley and have ample pass-catching weaponry on the roster to make target competition fierce. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Waller played only 8 games in the fantasy season, tallying 26 receptions for 353 yards and 3 TDs. Waller has a fresh start in New York, but he needs to stay healthy if he is going to be a TE1 in 2023. | Engram tallied 69 receptions for 739 yards and 4 TDs in the fantasy season, with his value skyrocketing in the second half of the season. He is a tight end to watch as the Jaguars appear to be an offense on the rise. |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 3/14 - love the NYG's third round stab here, one of the most dangerous weapons when healthy and could be the #1 weapon like he was for the Raiders with back-to-back 1K years in 2019 & 2020 |
