Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Despite passing the ball the seventh most times last season, Trevor Lawrence only passed for the ninth most yards. I say this because Engram's biggest threat this season is the addition of Calvin Ridley. It's true, this offense has a lot of mouths to feed, but all were relevant last season and there is clearly room for the volume to increase. If Lawrence takes another step forward, Engram should once again find himself among the weekly fantasy starters at the position.
Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Freiermuth is really a WR who qualifies at TE. I like his talent. I'm just not crazy about his situation. He'll go as far as Kenny Pickett can take him. How far that is though is the question. The upgrades on the offensive line will help, but Pittsburgh is still far from an offensive juggernaut. I want TEs I draft to be on explosive offenses. I want them to have a good chance at scoring TDs. I'm not sure Freiermuth can, even if Pittsburgh gets in the red zone. It's George Pickens who is their go-to guy. They also signed Allen Robinson. He could vulture some TDs in the red zone as well. Freiermuth's current ADP of TE 9 seems like his absolute ceiling if everything goes right, and I'm not sure it will. For that reason, I'm passing on him. Sorry Fry Guy, it's bye guy for Mark Ringo haha! Bust | Engram seems to have finally found a home. Jacksonville is building something special. They have one of the best young QBs in the game in Trevor Lawrence. Engram is a TE in name only. He's really a WR. The entire team should be more comfortable with the playbook as it's their second year in Doug Pederson's offense. The biggest concern I have is the addition of WR Calvin Ridley. Ridley was very good at Alabama and in Atlanta. He'll take some targets away from Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Engram. Engram's current ADP is TE 8, which is about fair value. |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | After a promising rookie season in which he had 60 catches for 497 yards and seven touchdowns, Pat Freiermuth scored only two TDs in 2022. But Freiermuth drew 98 targets in his second season and finished with 63 catches for 732 yards. The former second-round draft pick from Penn State offers a solid fantasy floor as a key component of the Pittsburgh passing game. | Evan Engram had a terrific rookie season for the Giants in 2017, then spent the next four years failing to live up to expectations. He signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars in 2022 and thrived in his new environment, catching 73 passes for 766 yards and four touchdowns. Engram also had 7-93-1 in the Jaguars epic come-from-behind playoff win vs. the Chargers. Back with the Jags after being franchise-tagged, Engram will likely be drafted as a midrange or low-end TE1 this summer. That might be a slight overpay now that the Jaguars have added WR Calvin Ridley and have ample pass-catching weaponry on the roster to make target competition fierce. |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 5/8: Darnell Washington might seem scary, but his low draft-capital + more blocker role may actually free up Frei to detach from the lineup more than expected
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Pat Freiermuth tallied 63 receptions for 732 yards and 2 TDs in the 2022 fantasy season. If Kenny Pickett can make the jump in his second year, Freiermuth should see his TDs go up, which would make him a great TE1. | Engram tallied 69 receptions for 739 yards and 4 TDs in the fantasy season, with his value skyrocketing in the second half of the season. He is a tight end to watch as the Jaguars appear to be an offense on the rise. |
