| Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Kittle ended the season on fire last year. His seven touchdowns in the final four games of the season definitely led some fantasy managers to championships. Unfortunately, this production could change drastically if Trey Lance is under center. Although I like Lance as a passer and also to start this season, we don't know how he will utilize Kittle. He has the talent and ability to be elite regardless of who is under center, however, I think the QB situation will determine whether he is top-three at the position or TE 4-8. | Where Hockenson lacks in upside, he makes up for target volume. After being traded in Week eight last season, he had six or more targets in every game (outside of Week 18). Immediately we saw Kirk Cousins lean on the reliable TE. So much in fact, that the last play of their season was a fourth and long, and Cousins dumped it off to Hockenson for a four-yard gain and the start of their off-season. Now that's commitment. This year with the absence of Adam Thielen and the drafting of Jordan Addison, Hockenson is inline to be a clear top-five option at the position. |
| Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | George Kittle remains one of the NFL's most talented tight ends and is arguably the hardest to tackle. He's coming off a strange season in which he scored a career-high 11 touchdowns but averaged 51 receiving yards per game -- the fewest since his rookie year in 2017. Kittle has been remarkably efficient as a pass catcher, with a career average of 9.6 yards per target. The question is whether Kittle will be targeted often enough to suit his fantasy managers. The 49ers are in flux at the QB position, and Kittle will have to share targets with RB Christian McCaffrey and WRs Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. | A midseason trade to the Vikings invigorated T.J. Hockenson in 2022. In seven games with the Lions, he averaged 6.1 targets and had 26 catches. After the trade, Hockenson averaged 8.6 targets in Minnesota and had 60 catches in 10 games. He also had 10 catches for 129 yards in the Vikings' playoff loss to the Giants. Entering his age-26 season, Hockenson is in the prime of his career and is an attractive option at the TE position now that he's with a team eager to leverage his pass-catching talents. |
| Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Kittle is one of the most talented TEs in the league. That's not up for debate. The biggest concern is Brock Purdy's health. The latest from Kyle Shanahan is that he's optimistic Purdy will be ready for week one. That's good news. As long as Purdy doesn't have a setback, Kittle's current ADP at TE 4 seems fairly priced. Keep an eye on Trey Lance this summer as well. It's important to see if Trey can take the next step and keep the 49'ers' offense rolling should Purdy go down. Kittle is still one of the best tight ends in the NFL when healthy, he should be among the best tight ends in fantasy in 2023. | Hockenson had 85 receptions for 898 yards and 6 TDs and developed immediate chemistry with Kirk Cousins after being traded from the Lions to the Vikings. Hockenson should be a fantastic fantasy TE1 in 2023. |
